If you haven't already heard. Turn on your news channel, google it, or check it out on ABC news http://www.abc.net.au/news/
Heaps and heaps of towns in the Australian states of Queenslands and also in the North of New South Wales have been absolutely flooded out. Tawoomba, a town ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN has been devastated by what can only be described as an inland Tsunami.

For the entire day since 6am (its currently 3:48pm) all the Australian TV Channels have been regularly interrupted with updates on the flood and how many have died/gone missing (currently 9 dead with 66 missing). I've been sitting in front of the TV almost all day just going :jawdrop: :cry:

Does anyone know anyone who has been effected by the floods? Or has anyone been directly effected by the floods?

Fucking oath. Its time likes these that I need chocolate :sighsm:

I was just watching the news about it myself, and would have started a thread if you hadn't. :tup:

Bloody awful for all concerned! :(

We have at least one member in Brisbane, Durro... Hope he's OK...

I have close family caught up in the Brisbane floods. Some have had to evacuate their home today. I posted about it here http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... 59#p727559, so won't repeat details.
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

That's what just about all of Australia is like; years of drought interspersed by floods. Most of our "rivers" actually flow inland, where they expire under the sun. Our biggest lake (Lake Eyre) is bone dry most of the time, but when it fills up, it is a wonder to behold.

At the moment the floods cover an area as large as France and Germany combined.

Nine people have been killed so far, and dozens are missing.

News Coverage is excessive.

Also, wankers who refuse to evacuate despite warnings are asking for it.

We in Perth are already seeing that from the Carnarvon floods in WA about 2 weeks ago.

I included pot for the lulz. Nobody can live without the other stuff. Especially tomatoes. Until production lead times have elapsed, the price of all those other commodities will be sky-high. Trust me on this. I am not an economist.
