Ok, we get that you think George is a war criminal Gawd. Since George was a politician, that makes all politicians war criminals. Since Gabrielle is a politician... So, no sympathy. Got it.

She was not the only one shot in this massacre...people lost their lives, including a nine year old, ironically, born on 9/11...I really don't want to buy into the fear, but is it, or isn't it a coincidence that this woman was HATED by the Tea Party. Is this homegrown terrorism, incited by the likes of Sarah Palin, Sharon Angle and Glenn Beck?

I certainly hope not but if it is, it's scary stuff.

Pawiz posted this on his Facebook page, it's worth a watch:

Correction, she is an American politician and in Congress. BTW, I'm surprised no one has mentioned that she is Jewish and accuse me of being an anti-Semite.

And there is nothing surprising about this shooting, Americans are well known for their terrorism a la WikiLeaks.

It will certainly feel a lot different to most Americans now though, since the terrorism is on home soil, eh?

Predictably, the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing the funerals of those who died.

I know it must seem like "many around here", but in reality, there are only a few who overgeneralise, and let their dislike for American policies become dislike for Americans.

Most folk on the forum who have a critical view of certain US policies make some effort to make that distinction clear. I certainly do.

The same goes for being Muslim although the penalties are just a little steeper. ;)

That's actually a likely scenario given all the American weapons "given" to Israel. You have to distract the average American from their $12+ trillion debt SOMEHOW. What better way than to start yet another American war and pillage?

I know it's not Americans they dislike...I don't take it personally at all. And, you do know I wasn't referring to you. ;)

In serious discussion, over generalizing is like derailing...it's an easy way out from having to admit maybe you don't know what you are talking about.

The last discussion we had about US health care was a perfect example...instead of discussing the issue, predictably the discussion degenerated into about how great the NHS is, and how bad our system is. It's old and it's boring.

I hope I wasn't part of that. My experience with the NHS has been really good, and all I said was that some people in the UK (my father specifically springs to mind - he's an ex-GP with a negative opinion about the NHS) didn't rate it and all they do is criticise. I know nothing of the US system, and didn't have a comment to make. Suffice to say in reaction to the whole negativity about the US, I was very, very prepared to work very, very hard last year to become a US citizen.

See, that's your problem. Half of all American adults can't do simple arithmetic as shown by Army recruiters. To become American, you have to act dumb to blend in.

Last time I looked, I wasn't the one with the problem. ;)

I don't remember you being a part of it, but based on your's and Jim's responses, I must have sounded rather offended in those two posts...I honestly am not. :hugs:

And I feel the same way as you do about commenting on British policies and politics...I wouldn't presume to be as knowledgeable about what goes on in the UK as I do about the US. That doesn't seem to be as much the case though with non-US residents commenting on the US around here.
