Couples who avoid sex before marriage end up having happier, more stable relationships, and a better time in bed, according to psychologists.
An American study backs the straightlaced view that sex should wait until your wedding night.
Researchers questioned more than 2000 married individuals about their relationships, and asked them when they started having sex.

What is there to lol about? This is the States, they come up with studies like this, there many people that practice chastity as a lifestyle of choice and are proud of it. The whole dating/getting married-process is formalised and ritualised to an extent many Europeans find ridiculous, but that's the way it is in US.
Just think of the word "date", you Brits don't even have a word for it; in US on the other hand there are prescriptions as to protocol and decorum: first date, second date, what you do, where you go, what is appropriate setting, clothing, etc., the third date is very significant... LOL, Europeans will blunder at every step there!

To the article in the OP .. I wouldn't dismiss the idea outright .. but I would take a broader/larger cross section for study, and I would look at other influential cultural aspects, such as any pre-existing and prevailing attitudes to sex among the group/s studied.
