I find it strange how our monarchy are viewed from outside .
So how do you view you from the inside, then? Just curious:

Not much ,that's the point ! A bit of tradition to attract tourists, a few national buildings the national trust doesn't have to upkeep ..some one to put a final rubber stamp on laws, someone to smooze foreign heads of state and put on nice show .

it's not eating into our national hearts that we are deprived our Freedumb because we are ruled by a monarchy .
I bet you could do a better job at all those functions! Britain has enough to offer to tourists without the royals. And who is going to pay for the wedding, tax-payers' money at least partially, I guess!

One good thing the States did was to emancipate themselves from those monstards!

Feck, it's the "monarchy" thing as it stands that makes us scratch our head.

Everything will change should Charles ascend to the throne. For now the herd is tolerant of the Royal exceses but that is only because the Queen is seen as a doddering dear old lady who owns a few corgis and her own staff. Prince Charles is like Mad King George in waiting. :naughty:

I have a conversation that involves the royals about once in 6months on average apart from this forum and often around here it's someone telling us how terrible it must be to live under the rule of a monarch , like it's the 16 hundreds and royal troops are collecting traitors heads for the walls of the Tower .

Not at what I meant, Having a king at all is not something we're used to here in Merka.

The hyper-wealthy controling elite, the upper class, in Merika is more socially static & entrenched than here possibly because without a face to point the finger at it can remain far more anonymous and unaccountable? :coffee:

I guess most people don't even think about it, its just there, no one pays any attention, it doesn't really have any effect on our day to day lives..

As Feck said while monarchy is a Grandmother figure, the British public are supporters or apathetic. If the major loon Charles ascends to the throne us anti-monarchy brigade will find our voices once more.
We should be MOST skeptical of ideas we like because we are sufficiently skeptical of ideas that we don't like. Penn Jillette.
