ISPs under pressure to control online porn
EXCERPTS: Tory MP Claire Perry: "Clean up your house within a certain time, or we will come and clean it for you". Internet minister, Ed Vaizey, issued invitation to Tory backbencher Claire Perry, who said the availability of sexual material online is "a fire is burning out of control". She wants tighter controls on material that is legal for over-18s to access. "The current way of controlling access to pornographic material on the internet is via safety settings and filtering software, installed and maintained by users-parents, teachers and carers across the country," she said. "Unfortunately, however, through technological ignorance, time pressure or inertia or for myriad other reasons, this filtering solution is not working."
Perry indicated that she will press for the industry to introduce systems that block porn sites unless users opt in to access them, after verifying their age. Her ideas appear similar to Australia's highly controversial "Great Firewall" censorship proposals, under which adults will opt out of filters to view legal pornography.
The Ratz NSFW Section and especially the TITTL threads are an example of such repugnant material needing control and it is most certainly the business of UK.Gov to place barriers and increase red tape to make access more difficult (OK, that's not in the article). I wonder just how convoluted the age "verification process" will be...
- Click on an 'Over 17 Button';
- Email sumptin' sayin' yer 18 or over;
- Mail in a Birth Certificate scan along with signed affidavit that it's yours;
- Walk in for personal identification of Birth Certificate, Drivers License, finger print and affidavit, plus blood sample and DNA analysis;
- Or something reaaaaally onerous...

I trust UK .Gov less than I trust the pornsites . How long before the firewall is used to block other information ? We had a case of widespread child abuse linked to an organisation from Italy ,If the Government were actually interested in child protection they could have told them to clean up their house instead of praising their leader on a state visit .

Update: British government wants all porn filtered out of the web, all fun sucked out of life...
Ratz NSFW and TITTL targeted along with millions of others?

Who decides what is or isn't porn? Will homo-erotic images like this be filtered out?

Re: UK ISPs Under Pressure To Control Porn for Over-18s
That's one reason why I found this story disturbing in the first place and I heard similar things out of the States a few years back. Presumably it would be some .gov organization to decide and if this ever came to pass in both the EweKay and the States, it likely would be the same throughout the English speaking world not long afterwards (though with the 'net, it would effectively be implemented by those two alone, methinks).DaveD wrote:Who decides what is or isn't porn?...
I don't get much UK news, but I hope that at least someone is trying to combat this. This is censorship and methinks censorship based on the worst of things - mindless religion and Puritanism with no real reason behind it. Hell, we could even see things like your image above, my avatar, nudity of all types and Calvin Klein ads banned under this guise.

I'll bet significantly more than 60% have found it, and that most looking for it were slightly over 9, and that a huge chunk were actively searching for it.
