In the next few years the US economy is going to tumble and this will give space for religous fundementalists and political right wingers to seek scapegoats for the turmoil. A obvious target will be the atheist minority. It seems there is a choice between becoming a kicking dog and doormat much as the Jewish population did in Germany between the wars and making a robust response to victim status that says move on? A proportionate response to violence or bad laws initiated in a economic collapse might serve to remind people that just being a minority isn't enough to become scapegoats. The time to become kitted out is before the crisis not during in it that would bring unwarranted attention.
