I would try to save him/her by not putting the fear of god up him/her and telling him/her he/she is not going to hell anyway.Kevin wrote:I'd like to know how you'd deal with the revelation that a major atheist icon was actually a convert to Christianity? Would you join the metaphoric lynch mob? or take the Bible from the shelf? or not give a damn?
Death penalty, just for the hell of it. Then he could appeal.Kevin wrote:I'd like to know how you'd deal with the revelation that a major atheist icon was actually a convert to Christianity? Would you join the metaphoric lynch mob? or take the Bible from the shelf? or not give a damn?
LOL. Are you alluding to Antony Flew, the prominent atheist and creator of the True Scotsman metaphor before he became a deist six years ago?ScienceRob wrote:I would be curious as do their thought process as they converted, especially if they were one who held their convictions strongly. Past that it doesn't change anything, it certainly wouldn't be enough for me to fall into a "True Scotsman" fallacy.
I wouldn't particularly care unless he/she could present some sort evidence that led to the conversion.Kevin wrote:I'd like to know how you'd deal with the revelation that a major atheist icon was actually a convert to Christianity? These religious people are outnumbering atheists and a clear threat. This is a social reality not just a war of opinions. Showing weakness is like a red rag to a bull when times change. There is no argument about evidence after your corner is taken by the opponent.MrFungus420 wrote:I wouldn't particularly care unless he/she could present some sort evidence that led to the conversion.Kevin wrote:I'd like to know how you'd deal with the revelation that a major atheist icon was actually a convert to Christianity? My lack of belief in a god is the result of a lack of any sort of evidence supporting any of the claims of the existence of a god.
I like that too. A not so subtle dig as well as a statement of fact.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:I liked Chris Hitchens' response when asked about death bed conversion. He said that the person he was now would certainly never consider it but that it was possible that some future version of himself, half mad with pain and doused in pain-killing drugs might conceivably do so and that we shouldn't set too much store by it cos it wouldn't be him.
That's nice. Completely irrelevant to the question and what I said...Kevin wrote:These religious people are outnumbering atheists and a clear threat.
