US EEOC and DOJ Sues to Protect Pilgrimage to Mecca.

Post by Coito ergo sum » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:25 pm

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... Mecca.html

A teacher in a public school wanted three weeks off to take a pilgrimage to Mecca. The EEOC investigated and found that the school discriminated against the teacher by denying her the time off, and the EEOC referred the matter to Eric Holder and the Obama Administration's Department of Justice, which took the ball and ran with it against the school district. They want the school to adopt policies accommodating teachers' religious beliefs, such that Muslims can take time off during the Hajj to take their pilgrimage.

Apparently, the problem is that the woman was asked to choose between her job and her religious beliefs. Well....yeah...like Jewish teachers who might want time off during Hanuka, or Kwanzaa followers who might want Kwanzaa off....or

I mean - three fucking weeks? You're going to saddle children with a substitute teacher for three weeks while this turd of a teacher goes to fucking Mecca?
:|~

Way to waste our money again!

Alright, better not let the Christians have Christmas off then.
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

Some Christians believe Christmas is in January. They don't get their Christmas off.

It's all ludicrous .. NO TIME OFF for anyone :lay: .. esp not teachers who'd rather join a pilgrimage to Mecca than indoctrinate educate children.

I just can't believe we have a Justice Department that thinks this is the kind of case that warrants their attention. The school had it resolved. But, the DOJ felt it worth taxpayer time and money to prosecute this bullshit.

They should have a separate rock for the women to orbit. Maybe a pink one.

LOL - some facts women need to be aware of when participating in the Hajj:
Women who are menstruating should assume ihram after a bath and recite talbiyah and engage in dhikr and du`aa’. However, they must not offer Prayer.
Menstruating women can practice all of the rituals of Hajj with the sole exception of Tawaf (going around the Ka`bah). As far as performing Tawaf is concerned, they should postpone it until such time that they are free of menses and have purified themselves through ghusl (bathing).

A woman is not allowed to perform Hajj alone and must be accompanied by an adult Muslim Mahram (father, husband, son or brother etc.)

*sigh*

Honestly, who cares? I've always supported the 1st amendment rights, and that's because they do a hell of a lot more to protect me from other people than they do to give other people random rights I don't want them to have. Why do I even care if a schoolteacher takes 3 weeks off? The leave was UNPAID, well, until the school district decided that they couldn't approve a request for an unpaid three week leave.

Now the judge is going to walk up, tattoo the 1st amendment on their head, and beat them with a giant paddle.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Gallstones, I believe you know how to contact me. The rest of you? I could not possibly even care.

Paid leave would be unreasonable. Unpaid leave would be OK if other teachers who wanted a few weeks off on unpaid leave for whatever reason (with plenty of notice...) had just as much chance of being granted the leave as well...

which they wouldn't, of course, if the reasons were non religious.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.
