Has anyone here read the Qu'ran?

Just want to know how to respond to this:

All I know about it is that muhammad (Bless his cotton socks) rode on a flying horse. :dunno:
All the proof you need is in the Holy Qur'an. Read it, don't believe in God just read the book if you're still not convinced then you're a hopeless case.

"The story of life on planet Earth, including human life, is told in the Holy Qur’an in a way that would light up the eyes of scientists if they read it. It’s the same story, which is told to students of biology. It leaves no doubt about the fact that life started in a very simple way a long time ago and kept evolving ever since.

The scientific story of creation of life is just one example of how the Holy Qur’an convinces its readers that no human on this planet could have authored this Book. Many of the scientific facts revealed became known only in the last century or so. The Messenger of God, Prophet Muhammed (Peace and blessings of God be upon him) was an illiterate man. It was impossible for him or for any other human being 1428 years ago to know about such facts."

I have the Quran next to my bed. It starts out horribly - talking about people who don't recognise that God and Mohammed are the real deal ought to be killed. I stopped around page three...

But you're probably reading it in the "wrong" order, and in the wrong language, so it's no surprise it doesn't read right. :dunno:

Yeah - the Muslim who gave it to me said that only certain sections pertain to certain groups of society. Didn't find out which group I belong to (oh hang on - it's the disbelievers who ought to be killed...)

I read three quarters of it. It started getting repetitive and boring. Keeps talking about casting people in to a see of fire and all other nasty shit. Full of sectarianism, sexism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, hypocrisy and outright silliness like the stars are missiles to ward off demons.

It was the other quarter that talked about science and being nice to everyone.

Just like the bible, the only call to be nice to your "fellow man" is in relation to your "fellow tribesman" however you want to define that. Everyone else is fair game.

The Koran (meh, I'm lazy) is what it is. just like the Bible. I'm more interested in just why people hang on its every word in such deluded fashion.

Because it's beaten into them from an early age (or at least beaten by the fear of being beaten)?

There was a guy in work once reading the Koran off his computer screen. An Indian guy (this Muslim was from Pakistan) asked him what it was about. The Muslim guy said it was hard to understand and make sense of it. I asked, "Then why bother reading it?" The Hindu guy laughed. The Muslim's face flushed. I think he knew himself it was bollox. His dad used to put lot's of pressure on him. The Muslim dude had long hair at one stage. He was rally good looking and looked like a model. But then he comes in one day with his hair short and parted to the side looking like any other Pakistani shop keeper. It turned out his dad had seen him on Skype and was furious about his hair, told him he can't even look at him and demanded he get it cut.

In fairness, the Koran holds off for a long time about the wrath of Allah on unbelievers.

58 words to be precise.
