I'm hoping that those motorcyclists who have been going to the soldiers' funerals to protest Westboro Baptist will do the same thing at the children's funerals.

No - that's way beneath my civil demeanor, and respect for civil liberties and whatnot... We should just encourage them to get really exercised about Islam, maybe to the point of making a few mocking drawings or videos or something. Supply the Westboro Baptists with some machetes and let them fight each other to the last man. And then we arrest the last man. Oh, if only...Gawdzilla wrote:lordpasternack wrote:Maybe we could slash their throats or something?sandinista wrote:so what do you suggest be done? The Mad Hatter wrote:I care.

Funny thing is if they had been at my wife's funeral I would have been quite happy. As it was there was no one to kill over her. and I gave that a lot of thought and no one even marginally in the framesandinista wrote:so what do you suggest be done? The Mad Hatter wrote:I care.

Still, the good news is that although she's had 2 funerals already, she is due a 3rd - this time with a hole in the ground attached

As an aside (because it doesn't really matter .. whatever it is, their world view is just fucking evil), I actually don't know what their specific beliefs are wrt the biblical bollocks .. I mean, is the 'christ teaching' thing even part of their particular brand of dogma?klr wrote:So much for Christian charity, compassion, forgiveness ...![]()

Is anybody really surprised by this news? The only thing that still has the power to amaze me about these fuckers is that nobody has put a bullet in Phelps's head yet - or better yet, his testicles - that I would pay to see.

Re: Westbro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths
Could be some simple things too. Simply forbid them from going anywhere near a child's funeral.

Re: Westbro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths
Call me soft but I think it would be worth the media and bloggers remembering they have kids with them and those kids have little choice gbut to see themselves as part of the family group. They demonstrate zero desire to shelter even their youngest children from the hatred a threats aimed at them - I have no doubt those children feel both hated and threatened.
What that group does is deeply wrong on so many levels. I would argue that they cross the line absolutely in terms of emotional abuse of their children but every time the outside world adds threat and hatred it must be known those kids feel it aimed at them.
It's a hard problem, but I suspect the answer in this extraordinary extreme case the answer would be to remove the kids first. Until then, for me, there's no letting fly with what I feel about the group.

Re: Westbro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths
Do you know about Nate Phelps, floppit? One of Fred's sons turned freethinker - he goes into extremely poignant detail about his father's abusiveness, how it's affected him and his siblings, and how he planned and executed his "escape". It is quite stomach-turning, but also encouraging, that even kids of lunatics like that can find some kind of sense and escape from that background, and make things better for their own kids.
I always just feel sorry for kids being used cynically or with flagrant disregard of their emotional wellbeing by anyone, and with particular respect to religion. I would hope that no kid had any addition to whatever emotional stress they were already going through due to the criticism that their older relatives quite rightly attract.

Not the only one as I recall.
"How many children do you have?"
"You know the answer."

Yeah - some of Nate's siblings are also estranged from the family, and are now atheists - but aren't as vocal and known as Nate.
The really horrible thing in it all is that the Phelps family isn't actually deficient in IQ, from what I can gather - they just stream what intelligence they have into utter repugnance, vindictiveness, small-minded bigotry and bile - under the coordination of Fred Phelps.

Re: Westbro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths
In the coldest, darkest, most haunted corners of my mind, of any parent's mind, is the fearful terror that some kind of hurt or harm will come the way of my children. That fear is seared on to the soul forever when a baby arrives. I can think of nothing, NOTHING, more emotionally agonising than losing a child. The absolute torment and maelstrom of unreal, helpless, hopeless loss must be unfathomable and it must reach a hyper-excruciating intensity at the child's funeral.
To think that anyone could even THINK of targetting such anguish and horror in an attempt to sneer, rejoice in it and compound it is utterly beyond belief. In a way, I hope they do go ahead with it, because there can be no doubt that the poor child will have some relatives who need an outlet for the impotent rage and fury they feel underneath their sorrow, and these pitiful excuses for human beings will make excellent fucking punch bags to work some of that pain out of their system.

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Re: Westbro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths
They already tried this for a military funeral the Phelp's family protested...someone's child died in that instance as well. It went to the Supreme Court, and lost. As long as they stand 1000 ft from the event they have the right to protest it.The Mad Hatter wrote:Could be some simple things too. Simply forbid them from going anywhere near a child's funeral.

Beating them up would only add to the family's misery because they would end up being thrown in jail for assault or homocide.
