:) Satan's handmaiden
But here steps in Satan, the eternal rebel, the first freethinker and emancipator of worlds. He makes man ashamed of his bestial ignorance and obedience. He emancipates him, stamps upon his brow the seal of liberty and humanity in urging him to disobey and eat of the fruit of knowledge

Satan's biggest achievement is convincing people he was real, and not the head of the Catholic Church.

Re: :)
Satan "tempted" Adam and Eve to eat the "forbidden fruit" from the "tree of knowledge". All very metaphorical stuff.
Satan was also known as "Lucifer", the bringer of light, which ties in quite nicely with the ancient Greek legend concerning
Prometheus, "who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals. Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. His myth has been treated by a number of ancient sources, which Prometheus is credited with – or blamed for, but credited nonetheless – playing a pivotal role in the early history of humankind."
Satan/Prometheus, in other words, is credited/blamed for sparking human civilisation.
Satan - before he had his falling out with the bearded one - was an angel with the rank of Seraph... and now it would appear that I have blown my cover.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.
Baudelaire ,Charles wrote a few poems on that subject .
seems if you take "divine wisdom" and give it to mankind then the jealous one gets nasty ?

Re: :)
God doesn't come off well at the start of Genesis, does he?
1) Create a pair of humans with no knowledge of good and evil.
2) Tell them not to eat from this particular tree (which contains the knowledge of good and evil - seems an odd place to leave it lying around), event though they don't know that doing so is wrong, because they have no such knowledge.
3) Woman (note - the woman, not the man) is tempted by a talking snake into eating fruit from this tree.
4) Woman, still with no knowledge of doing anything wrong, eats fruit; gives it to Man.
5) Woman and Man quickly cover their genitals, because ... um ... well ... someone might see, though I'm not sure who exactly.
6) God blows gasket on realising that humans are now able to tell that they shouldn't have eaten the apple that the snake told them to eat when they didn't know it would have been bad to do so, and casts them out of his garden to be farmers.
And then he floods the world and kills everyone because ... oh something about fornication, probably ... I have no idea what's going on ...

Re: :)
Has anyone noticed that Satan never actually deceived Adam and Eve? It was God who deceived them by threatening them with an unknown phenomenon. Satan doubted that, and he was right. Man was emancipated, and was free to learn to think and to feel beyond the confines of celestial curatorship.
Though the story is a myth, why have no Christians ever had this epiphany? Has no one realised they were worshipping the genuine deceiver(an oxymoron in terms I'm sure).

I think "the actual deceiver" would make your point clearer.
Re: :)
sss a common idea. In Greek mythology, Prometheus (Ancient Greek: Προμηθεύς, "forethought")[1] is a Titan, or the son of a Titan, and brother to Atlas and Epimetheus (afterthought). He was a champion of human-kind known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.[2] Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. His myth has been treated by a number of ancient sources, in which Prometheus is credited with – or blamed for, but credited nonetheless – playing a pivotal role in the early history of humankind.

God also lied to A&E - he told them they would "surely die" if they ate the fruit. The serpent said "nah, you'll just know the difference between right and wrong".Lozzer wrote:Has anyone noticed that Satan never actually deceived Adam and Eve? Also when you think about it, it's absolutely necessary to know the difference between right and wrong if you expect to survive more than a week.
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Good question ...Lozzer wrote:Though the story is a myth, why have no Christians ever had this epiphany? Has no one realised they were worshipping the genuine deceiver(an oxymoron in terms I'm sure).
Some christians do have this 'epiphany', or recognise the irony ... and some of those go on to lose their faith.
Those that don't have been trained, usually from a very young age, to believe these stories, literally. I'm sure that many, on some level, are in denial about what they really think, though. It's only when they heed the dissonance that the penny drops.

Yes, that's what I was pertaining to. A good question would be: if there was no 'right' and 'wrong' in the Garden of Eden, then I think its warranted to assume that the fruit was placed there as a ticket to intellectual and physical liberation--had this been the case, then perhaps God wanted them to consume the fruit so that they would survive in the real world. But this is the confusing part, why would God place the fruit of emancipation in the Garden which was not fettered by reality--the fruit having the capability to help man survive in the real world, then punish them for accepting such a token and thus releasing themselves(which was the imperative of the fruit)?

I think that when they were making these stories up they just weren't smart/skeptical enough to think it all the way through, and neither were most of those who heard them ...Lozzer wrote:Yes, that's what I was pertaining to.
