And a bit of :MFM2: :FMF3: wouldn't go awry either.
Slowly! We don't want to shock the more delicate sensibilities. :dq:
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Do we really have to listen to everyone every time that a mod pisses someone off at Rat skep ? should every one of their mod posts be dissected here

Would our mods like to think that every time they did or said something that it would be bitched about on another forum ?
I know that I would come into conflict with the ratskep way of doing things So guess fucking what I'm not a member !

If you don't like it there fine ! we are more than happy to host your sorry asses here ,we have a very different attitude and yes the odd post saying "I got banned from there ,and all I said was ...." might be ok but it seems every time someone comes here complaining it turns out that they only want to tell us half the story and a slandered mod from there eventually has to post here to explain the full history pages and pages and bitching about it all .Do I go whining all over Ratsckep every time Pappa tells me I'm being a twat and should STFU ? If you can't work out how to be rude nasty and dismissive of someone and still stay within a forums guide lines then guess fucking what you are not as bright or clever as you think you are .

Hey, went through lots of the same when I was modding RDF, didn't bother me in the slightest, part of the territory.

As for the rudeness and nastiness within the rules, well, I think it makes someone a bit of a dick actually, not really clever in the slightest. It also shows how myopic adherence to the letter of the FUA blinds people to the spirit of it. A syntactically veiled PAI is just as disruptive as any other PAI, especially when it's as obvious as the one quoted above. Whether it's deemed a PAI or not, it's certainly unacceptable from a mod IMO.
Forums are interesting and if you don't agree, you can fuck off.

I don't get that at all.

I've posted plenty of flippant remarks around the "serious" forums there and they've pretty much all been followed up with a  and a slight derail, or been ignored (which doesn't bother me in the slightest because that can also happen in social forums). Here's an example:

http://www.rationalskepticism.org/astro ... ml#p570870

I also started a thread titled "Calm the fuck down" in the Tech forum and then proceeded to muck about and have a laugh about drama - eventually the thread descended (ascended?) in to singing "I'm a little teapot". I didn't receive any sanction at all, the thread was quietly and correctly moved to Social and Fun and everyone got on with it. I feel very comfortable there because I feel happy among old friends, just as I do here, and I feel that many people there are happy to see me about as well. Yes, there are certain rigid restrictions (most notably the sex discussions) but it doesn't spoil my enjoyment, in the same way that when the smoking ban came in I could still enjoy a night in the pub even though I had to stand outside whenever I wanted a cigarette. I think for the most part it's a good, well run, stimulating forum.

I go to RatSkep for the same reason I went to RDF - to occasionally read and sometimes contribute to the more serious discussions. Though I also sometimes feel that same "tumbleweed" sensation if I do post. I suspect it's more a case that I'm an infrequent visitor, not well known there, and with a low post count - consciously or unconsciously that results in being excluded by residents from conversations. RDF never drew me in to the degree that I was a regular poster - I was never part of the social side of that place, and likewise RatSkep doesn't fulfill that role either.

I suspect the tumbleweed would blow away if I spent as much time there as I do here, and probably the same for others.

In terms of discussing their "dramas" - I think it does everyone good to discuss what's perceived to be causing problems elsewhere. That helps "us" to avoid the same things happening here.

Spot on.

Hello, you all probably don't know me

I registered here after the RDF meltdown but drifted over to RatSkep primarily because the blue theme and selection of subforums made it a close substitute for RDF. I lurk a lot but don't have a massive post count over there, I've never received so much as an advisory and I don't have any axe to grind against anyone.

So from what I consider neutral perspective I will agree that the moderation team over there has lost the fucking plot altogether. Application of the increasingly silly FUA has passed being entirely partial and is now completely unhinged. I may not have deactivated/lost it at anyone over there but I am not very excited about the changes in tone. In fact, I think that they are total fucking bullshit, and I wish I had stuck on here instead.

Well you're here now! Glad you're back. Tan and brown suit you rather well anyway.

You can get rid of the brown in the User Control Panel if you want - I think one of the bluey/silver ones is available as an alternative.

I use blue and silver.
