Queensland's Attorney-General Cameron Dick has appealed against the leniency of a sentence given to former police officer Benjamin Price, convicted of assaulting tourists who'd been taken into custody.

Price, 34, was sentenced last month to 27 months' jail after pleading guilty to four counts of assault while he was a senior constable at the Airlie Beach police station.

CCTV footage captured Price punching 23-year-old Timothy Steele in the head and forcing a high-powered fire hose into his mouth.

In other images, Price was seen slamming slightly-built Renee Toms, then 21, to the floor of the watchhouse before pulling her up by the hair, lifting her off the ground.

Mr Dick lodged an appeal in the Court of Appeal in Brisbane on Wednesday.

"The grounds of this appeal are that the sentences fail to reflect the gravity of these particular offences, that the sentence fails to sufficiently take into account the aspect of general deterrence, and that the sentencing judge gave too much weight to factors of mitigation," he said in a statement.
