Considered starting another game on Mass Effect 2 just so I'm fresh for the finale, but will probably do that early next year. Red Dead Redemption lost its appeal pretty quickly actually but I guess it's because I'm now completely bored of GTA. RDR looks better than any GTA game, it's bigger, and it's very different in it's setting. But it's still too similar in far too many ways, and I now feel like I've been playing the same GTA game over and over for a decade.
I agree about AC2 being too easy, but I extend this opinion to computer games in general now. I remember when you can buy games that were really fucking difficult or even next to impossible. I know it's about making the games accessible, but nowadays even the highest difficulty setting isn't too hard to beat. If there are difficulty settings, the highest one should be a real challenge. For example, some of my fave NES, SNES, Master System 2 and Mega Drive games were the ones that gave me the most trouble completing and really tested me.
You should have to work at a game and get good at it in order to complete it. That's how I feel anyway.
The games can actually be quite a bit more of a challenge, but the use of checkpoints (and their ilk) mean that you don't have to get through the entire level at one sitting. Four difficult spots become one at a time, as opposed to four every time you fail one.

I'm playing though FFXIII again, since I have a better idea of what I'm doing now. Fighting is much easier since I'm more familiar with the battle system, and I'm trying to be smarter about upgrading and such. I think the gameplay could be a little more varied. Some mini-games or side quests (besides sorting through the marks) would be nice. But I am enjoying the game still. It's an incredibly beautiful game, that's for sure, with an amazing attention to detail and wonderful aesthetic. Now that I know the storyline, also, things make a like more sense to me. The cutscenes aren't just gibberish. And I'm enjoying the interplay between the characters. Some genuine touching moments.
Anyway, where are the cacti? I've made it to that big field (and past it, actually, into the tower) and there are none there. Do they appear at a certain point or something? I thought they were always there
Also, how do I ride the goddamn chocobos? I remember wondering this the last time. Eventually I was able to ride them, but I don't remember when or how. What gives

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Mashed my way through Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II over the course of a few weeks. Red Dead Redemption is about to be done all over again before I venture into the zombie add-on, and after that I have Heavy Rain waiting.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Re: What are you playing now?
Goldeneye for the Wii, I played the original on the N64 and never really got into any FPS games since... they never lived up to this original. This new version's not a re-make but the opening section was slightly familiar, the rest of the game has kept me playing for an hour or two.

Re: What are you playing now?
Black Ops is pretty good. Well designed levels and fast paced. The controls are smoother making it easier to kill people. Kill streaks are harder to get so the skies above are not so chaotic. Also the volume has been nudged down on planes and helicopters so you don't hear them roar overhead like before. Some people may not like this but I prefer it, I felt it got too noisy sometimes on MW2. I'm not big into the layout and I'm not decided yet on the new levelling up system. You can do an awful lot of customisation though.

Re: What are you playing now?
I've found one thing to hate about this game. There is no "mute all" button for the multi-player. Which fecking gobshite over-looked that? I have to mute everyone individually and if someone new joins mid-game I've to press select to bring up the scoreboard and mute them also. It's like trying to stamp out fires
I expect them to have a patch post-haste.
