I wonder how long it'll be before somebody decides to blame the officers for this.
Absolutely pathetic.
Maybe if the public weren't such assholes the police wouldn't have to resort to using tasers?

Yup. And maybe if all policemen were proper nobody would be throwing petrol bombs.
Goes both ways, dunnit?
No doubt about it though, absolute twats.

What does that mean? There aren't a fair few arsehole officers out there? There aren't a feckload of cases where they cover their own arses (who guards the guards)? The Mad Hatter wrote:No, it doesn't.
Given that's the case, how do you demonise people any more than you demonise policemen? I'd like a good reason or at least stats to point to people being signigicantly twattier.

Cops are people, they are our employees in a way. Why did those cops show up? Some people were having a loud party that was disrupting some other people. So they called in a third group of people that society pays to deal with that sort of thing.Eriku wrote:What does that mean? There aren't a fair few arsehole officers out there? Here's a concept: think of it as a worker's rights issue.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I'd like a good reason, or at least stats, indicating that the police are as equally or worse than the public.
Go on. Give me states which reflect the contemporary Australian law enforcement.

I wasn't talking about these individual policemen deserving it, nor anybody deserving it. Just that animosity these idiots must have felt towards them... or at least that's likely.Robert_S wrote:Cops are people, they are our employees in a way. Why did those cops show up? I wasn't the one chucking stones. All I was saying was that a few don't give legitimacy to calling people in general assholes over it any more than the inverse applies (calling all police twats due to a few rotten apples)The Mad Hatter wrote:I'd like a good reason, or at least stats, indicating that the police are as equally or worse than the public.

There's been plenty of ill-advised usage of tasers by police, from what I understand... would people perhaps be less assholish if no policemen used excessive force?
Won't happen, of course... because every-flippin'-where there are rotten apples.
If there's anything to be disagreed with there then I give up.

It depends... I have seen cops be really cool, open minded and fair and I've also seen them be racist sexist pigs. But a lot of what I've seen is spoiled, privileged suburban white college saying "Fuck the police" because they have to behave somewhat within the bounds of civility and exercise some discretion with the drugs and underage drinking. In recent years there has been a crackdown on underage drinking in my town. This was not because the cops wanted to spoil everyone's fun. It was because the citizens demanded it after too many kids demonstrated they can't handle the part about not dying or getting hospitalized.Eriku wrote:I wasn't talking about these individual policemen deserving it, nor anybody deserving it. If you want to criticize the police because they are tools of the capitalist system, you have to say the same thing for wage slave operating a cash register. I can tell you there are cops who have a great deal of disgust with corporate greed; they see the results more than most people. But just like the guy at the checkout line can't give away food when they see someone in need, the cops have to at least give the impression that they are enforcing the law.
All this anti-cop rhetoric is just alienating the most well armed segment of the proletariat. (drug dealers and professional criminals are just another variety of bourgeoisie scum)

Re: No, please, tell me more.
I've met a few Police I would think should be removed from the force , one or two that should be in prison for a long time and a whole bunch of the Met's riot groups that should (if there be any justice) have got a good kicking , can't say I've ever met a cop I thought should be set on fire .

Re: No, please, tell me more.
If you got beef with C-O-P's
Throw a Molotov at the P-I-G's
Cause they be harassing you and me
Ya gotta understand we still not free
Don't trust the police, no justice no peace
They got me face down, in the middle of the street
Pistol whip me with the heat, chicken shits sizzling
Trying to serve me the all-you-can eat murder beef
I'm a young, black, heterosexual male
Don't drink no drank, don't smoke, don't sale
That's the real reason that they want me up in jail
They want me to fail, I resist and rebel
See I give a fuck about the C-O-P's
P-I-G's I wonder if I can shake em' like a P-I-T
Cause they wanna see me D-I-E
Got me cash under mob, I'm a pre-O.G.
Dark Sobe associates, vicious, venomous vocalist
Chrome 4-4 toting, holding it down for Oakland
Folks do be smoking and shit we do what we holding
Some just don't notice they get demoted
Throw em' all the time music
This is for them ladies with them empty plates
For that raise ripped that you didn't calculate
If you ever in your life been awarded to state
On the corner with cake
If they send an undercover and you tip the bag, huh
Next time I see em' with no hesitation
I'm peeling off like stolen registration
And leave a lot of smoke
See I'm that sort of folk
That been pig hunting since my mama's fucking water broke
Cause they the henchmen nah they the lenchmen
Between the rich and puffs of weed known to trench them
Cause they dispense with the dollars and cents
So when you stand go get candles, flowers, and incense
Behind steel gates is fifty percent of our bill rates
A pre-kin making microchips for Bill Gates
Pelican Bay, t-shirts for the workout
Police station where the slave catchers lurk out
Listen to the thunder, I'm no more taking under routes
We'll synchronize and give em' shit to wonder bout
The DEA is filthy, yell not guilty
We need control of the cash and the realty
And get rid of all the motherfucking parasites
More than weed burn at 420 Fahrenheit
Shaking in they boots when we start to bust
They ain't scared of rap music, they scared of us

I'm not criticising the police, though... I'm just saying that if you want to call the general people arseholes citing instances like these then legitimately I could flip it... Using this to back tazers when there's been a fair few cases of tazers causing fatal harm or being applied in a situation which doesn't call for it is as stupid as having a go at the police due to a few bastards in their camp.Robert_S wrote:It depends... Can't we all just agree that there's a fair few idiots going around, without making blanket statements about either group?
This isn't the thread for it, but I have to disagree with your "drug-dealers are scum" statement, btw... my cannabis connection is a stand-up guy and would never do anything untoward... again, broad strokes with the brush will mean that you colour outside the lines (even if you also get some bits inside the lines), if you'll pardon the awkward metaphor.

I said that drug dealers are bourgeoisie scum and I meant that in a playful manner with an allusion to Marxist politics. I call my boss that all the time and he's not a drug dealer. But there is a point in there. The fact that drugs are illegal and cops put forth some effort to enforce those laws is the reason it's possible to make decent money producing and selling them. Although his is not always the case...Eriku wrote:I'm not criticising the police, though... Sandi: I love The Coup. The thing is, when the major abuses and miscarriages of justice are conflated with the cops coming around to issue a noise complaint, it completely fucking diminishes and mocks real human suffering. When I hear frat-boys shout "Fuck the police" I want to puke from my ears.
