You know a really good case could be made for allowing a bit of leniency when others discuss Josh over there. It is quite clear that he didn't join to become a contributing member. I'm not saying let people go wild, but certainly some accommodation could be made.

I agree, though I sympathise with the slippery slope argument on part of the staff - it's a tough spot to be in.

Ultimately dealing with this particular person in this situation is about as unique as it gets, however, and not really comparable to any other camel's noses they fear might get under the tent flap. This is a complete anomaly, I'd argue.

It wouldn't be easy, but it could be done - and I agree this is a complete anomaly.

If Josh actually took the time to answer people's concerns and engage with them - if he had reported any of the posts containing personal insults - if, in fact, he had visited the forum since his single, drive-by post, then of course he should be subject to the same protection as any other member. He hasn't done that here and, to the best of my knowledge, he hasn't done that at RS. All he has done is post a single link to his blog and fuck off again - well whoopdy-doo!

I am not saying that he should be fair game for any and all insults. But that hasn't really happened, has it? All that has occured has been a very understandable outpouring of schadenfreude and speculation with the occasional insult in the mix. No case to answer on the personal attack front as I see it.

RS was unusual in getting about 7 posts from him. I hear he posted the same link at every other well-known atheist forum before scuttling off again into the ether.

If I wasn't so over that shit I'd argue for a Timonen exception clause to be added into the FUA.

But come to think of it almost all of us have a level of familiarity with Timonen that allows us to engage in friendly banter.

And he has a rapport with the mods who will undoubtedly realize if when he reports a post he doesn't really mean it: he's just joshing.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I skipped a few pages, okay, a lot. Can I still say rude things about JT?
