I'm wondering what the prices will be. I'm wondering what the quality of the meat will be. Are these animals that are not factory farmed? Because I'm really leaning right now toward local and/or organic meats, and an trying to avoid factory-raised meat. Of course I don't two shits about the religious aspect of halal meats. I'm just wondering if they're healthier, and if so, if they might therefore be a good choice

I've no idea what halal meat is except some vague idea of its being butchered according to some muslim religious rules. But a halal meat market opened up recently in the area. It's the first I've ever seen, and I intend to stop in this coming week when I do my grocery shopping. The reason why is that, prominently displayed on the sign, it shows that lamb and goat are offered. Unlike other countries, lamb is not at all common here, and generally very expensive. And goat is absolutely unheard of. So my curiosity is piqued.

Everything is factory farmed here, I fear, unless otherwise specified. As far as goat actually being mutton, that wouldn't bother me at all. In fact I've always wanted to make mutton stew. I always loved Campbell's Scotch Broth soup as a kid. The meat in that is mutton. Always confused me when I was younger, because I had no idea what mutton was. Lamb is very common in the US, at least here in California. Goat meat is fairly common among hispanics here in CA. I would be really surprised if it was sold as goat but was actually mutton.
As far as Halal goes...if I had a choice between factory farmed and halal, I would still pick halal - it's the lesser of the two evils. Under perfect conditions, the method of slaughter is still more humane.
