I just bought Fallout - New Vegas
I haven't tried it yet, but I like the spirit of the fallout games, so I'm thinking I'll enjoy it

Re: I just bought Fallout - New Vegas
Does it suck as much as Fallout 3 or have they removed the boredom factor?

Re: I just bought Fallout - New Vegas
For the ones who still wonder the differences between Fallout 3 and New Vegas :
-The map seems to be a little smaller
-The map might be smaller, but the way it is made, it seems very large
-A lot more locations
-A lot more guns and equipments (including cool looking ones)
-Weapons/ammos mods are very useful
-Hardcore mode makes it like "real life" : Need to eat and drink often, stimpaks heal over time, etc.
-Graphics are a lot better (unless you downloaded Fallout 3's HD graphics mod)
-So many quests, it's gonna make the gamer last longer, in my opinion
-Companion system a bit more visual (also, you can have one human and one non-human companion at the same time)
-A lot of factions.
-The main quest requires a lot of "heartbreaking" choices (i.e. you gotta choose the faction you help : Legion, NCR, House or no one)
-There are so many options in terms of factions : help "Faction 1", make "sub-Faction 2" friends, but destroy "sub-Faction 3", etc.
-Decide if you are pro-robot, pro-human, pro-mutant or pro-self
-The main quest is much more fun than Fallout 3's (the story)
-Casino-like mini-games
-Less skills
-More perks
-Initial "handicap" to choose
-Less radiation (water is drinkable without radiation)
-New Vegas's normal difficulty seems (to me) harder than Fallout 3's. (eg : less stimpaks and ammo, even with the perk which says you find more)
-A lot more glitches than Fallout 3 (downside, but will be patched)
In my honest opinion, I think New Vegas is better, but that's just me.
P.S. I'm playing PC version with Ultra-High settings, HDR. the only FPS drop I felt was in Hoover Dam

It's meh. Some bits are better than FO3 others are worse. I've already had to restart because I couldn't continue playing the character I wanted to. Which is an arse for an RPG.

Re: I just bought Fallout - New Vegas
I loved Fallout 3, but for different reasons then most - I loved wandering the wasteland for hours on end discovering secret locations, the loneliness of it all was heaven, plus the music and 50s kitsch was very much to my taste. New Vegas is much more heavily populated and has twice the map markers but there's nowhere near as much loot - you might come across a street of destroyed houses complete with map marker but with no items to find or people to talk to, whereas if you found an isolated caravan or boat in FO3 it would be worth your time to investigate.
There are alot of quests, I've done a fair few and still have a dozen on my list and I'm not even 1/2 way through the main quest, having got itchy feet and buggered off into the wasteland. The smaller ones have alot of too-ing and fro-ing which gets really fucking annoying, there's only so many times you can go through a gateway in 10 minutes before you want to punch someone.
Reached level 23 last night and finally got me a house, carrying stuff around with nowhere like Megaton to dump it got annoying about 20 levels ago - you can get a room in one of the casinos earlier on in the main quest but there are better options in my opinion - can tell you if you want.
Scenery is greener and brighter - having got very into FO3 it feels great that the world has recovered a little.
A few companions to choose from if you like, have picked up 3 so far, I believe there are more. I miss Fawkes though and the reassuring clump of his feet in the silence
I'm leaning towards FO3 preference wise but would mix aspects together if I could, apparently its got a similar feel to the earlier Fallout games which I haven't played so can't comment there.
There are a lot more dialogue options - have been saving constantly - and the line between 'good' and 'bad' is very blurry when it comes to the various tribes and families.

Re: I just bought Fallout - New Vegas
Fallout 3 was very 'apocalyptic' while Fallout 1 and 2 were very 'post-apocalyptic'
By that I mean Fallout 3 still felt like the destruction was only recent, still having an effect. Fallout 1 and 2 felt like people were adapting, and in some cases had adapted, to their circumstances. They'd moved past it, the whole nuclear war really was history.
I'm planning to get Vegas on PC once I get back to Sydney.

Does Rex have no limit then? I thought it was a 200lb limit but hadn't checked it, and one follower at a time supposedly but have had Boone and Rex together up until last night when I switched them for Cass who is crap and I keep losing.cheese wrote:I use Rex as an infinite stuff carrier.Millefleur wrote:Reached level 23 last night and finally got me a house, carrying stuff around with nowhere like Megaton to dump it got annoying about 20 levels ago - you can get a room in one of the casinos earlier on in the main quest but there are better options in my opinion - can tell you if you want.

Re: I just bought Fallout - New Vegas
I'll post my list of "essential" mods here later.
I'm not sure that the game world is actually smaller than FO3 because in FO3 the city proper was mostly window dressing with disconnected zones (streets) which could only be accessed through short, mostly boring, subway tunnels. In short, a large portion of the world map was a stage set.
Also New Vegas has like "real" guns. Lots of em. It doesn't have as many new energy weapons though, but I don't mind that - always thought they were cheesy (especially the plasma variants - the damn projectiles move slower than an arrow).
My character is a hot femme fatale recon/sniper style.
My main weapons are the .44 magnum pistol with all mods, the trail carbine with scope, the varmint rifle with all mods, and the anti-material rifle.
Favourite thing so far
Oh, and I assasinated Caesar. LoL.
Dunno how that's gonna affect the plot.

Should we spoiler this for Normal?
I got a bit of a shock when I wandered into that quarry at something silly like level 4 and got set upon.

Nope haven't done that one yet. I've been mostly wandering. I've done all all the Great Khan quests, I'm thinking I'll do the boomers next maybe.
PS spoiler your quote and I'll spoiler it in my post.

I was wrong, 250lb is the limit, but with with AND Rex, it's 500lb, which is more than enough for me.Millefleur wrote:Does Rex have no limit then?
