I don't value animals at any level of human.
Did you ever hear that thought experiment about the hamsters and human and which do you save? Like, would you save 5 hamsters over one human? How about a thousand? ten thousand? At which point do you save the hamster?
My answer is at no point. I would let a million hamsters plummet into a ravine to save one human. Same goes for dogs, cats, elephants and horses.

Unless the I know the human and know that he is scum. Then I'll safe one hamster and if anyone asks I'll say I didn't even notice him until it was too late.

The protocol for doing LD 50 test is well known do you think they test 3 mice FFS. I've done LD 50's at University !

The tests are done as an easy and quick way to give a nice result that can be used in courts if they are sued ! the costs of LD tests are very little compared to the marketing costs for a new product or the potential loss of a court case .
I'm not against all animal testing but it is over used and over relied upon .And to say that my expressed knowledge about this in some way means that children are going to die from untested drugs is a Strawman .
You could say (if we are going to play with strawmen) then the acceptance of animal testing has set the search for immortal cell lines back down the list of research priorities and as animal testing will never be as reliable as testing on human cells that it has cost lives .

As I said, if there is no demonstrable benefit to the company then they wouldn't be doing the testing. If they do the testing to stop themselves from being sued, then either the public is excessively litigous or this testing is helping to ensure a safe product is being released on to the market.

So why do some companies NOT test on animals then ?......there are more and more ways to test new chemicals and products and they are gradually replacing the old tests but there is still a lot of inertia keeping things done the old way ,and one of the reasons this is allowed is that the companies trot out the same strawmen as you have today.and yes the public is litigous and yes courts and jurors want a nice simple number like an LD 50 that they can understand

A company will do what saves them more money.
If some companies don't test, then either there are pre-existing tests they can rely on or the cost of a law suit is less expensive than the testing.

I would advise anyone who's boycotting products which employed animal testing in their development or implementation to avoid all medical technologies. All of them. Then send them to me because I'm a 'Merkin and we can't afford those here.

Windex?

What the fuck?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Not all the testing on animals is for medical technologies. What's wrong with at least being selective, and trying to reduce the amount of animal testing? Does that make people who avoid cosmetics or windex, for example, hypocrites as long as they partake of medical technologies?

Make your own. It's easy.

1/4 cup ammonia
1 cup rubbing alcohol
2 qts water
a few drops of liquid dishwashing soap

Well, animal testing is necessary. For example, herceptin treatments for breast cancer in women required animal testing, and the treatment of diabetes through insulin injections was discovered and refined through animal testing (dogs). Animal testing reduces the need for human experimentation and saves human lives.

Just like windex. That's what the addition of the alcohol does. It's essentially the same ingredients as windex, minus scent and color.
