To take a leaf out of their book...

"Hate the sin, love the sinner"
:hehe:

Religion pisses me off more and more, but I still get along surprisingly well with many of my moderate religious friends...

Poor deluded fools that they are...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?

I go climbing with a guy who never mentions religion. He's bulked up recently and clearly feels more confident about his physique so now he takes of his T-shirt when he climbs. I knew he was covered in tattoos, but I just saw that the ones on his torso are Catholic-related: quotes from the Lord's Prayer, Rosary beads and stuff. I thought "Oh dear," and my opinion of him did drop a little. It's never even come up in conversation, and I actually think I might be wrong to have changed my opinion even slightly. But it's there, just under the surface as I anticipate his saying something about it.

A reply received on RatSkep:

why is this in christianity? should be in theism or nontheism.

For me the way forward is using the political non-violent process. Like gay and black people did.
The obvious difference with those is that sexuality is not something you can be reasoned into or out of. Gay people and black people never wanted the entire world to become gay or black. I have no shame in saying I want the entire world to be rational sceptical atheists.

Dries van Tonder I don't know if you dream of violence (I remember your last thread) but I feel that would be a very very bad idea.

I'd like to refer you to a quote talking about the scientific method.
"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." ~Max Planck
If this principle is correct even in science, the objective winner of academia, surely it must be the case for a social idea like religion.

That is why I feel our first priority is children and children's minds. We need to somehow stop or reduce childhood indoctrination away from reason and into religion. Religious schools need to be closed. The new generation will grow up and see the light. I'm looking at this from a UK-centric view. France for instance doesn't have that problem.

After that (assuming we ever manage it) is removing any government sponsorship or subsidy to religious organisations. Churches get massive tax breaks in the UK, US and across the EU. They use this wealth to pump our their propaganda.

In the past there have been other anti-theist movements. The earliest was probably the anti-clericalism just after the French revolution. I would like it a lot if there were some books or forum posts which did historical analysis on these. Obviously they failed, I'd like to know why.

I hate religion too! :td:

But I'm not against anyones rights to believe in silly nonsense. So we have to be carefull not to turn into fascists or even become as bad as religion already is. ;)

For a moment I thought I wrote that (I do strange things when I'm drunk :funny: :funny: )

Nope, that was a reply I got on RatSkep (just in case you thought I went :sshag: :funny: :smoke:
