United States government deliberately infects...
Re: United States government deliberately infects...
The War began before the full extent had come to light, but it was definitely in their minds by the end. Smuggled photos letters etc.

The severity of the problem is mentioned as early as May, 1941, in the New York Times. An article published around that time accurately described the conditions in one of the camps. The Mad Hatter wrote:The War began before the full extent had come to light, but it was definitely in their minds by the end. From what we were told (I refuse to use the term 'learnt', not much teaching/learning involved), allies didn't really give focus until someone brought hard evidence in to the British Parliament.Gawdzilla wrote:The severity of the problem is mentioned as early as May, 1941, in the New York Times. Here's a novel idea: how about we stop inflating knucklehead threads like these with pages worth of posts about how stupid they are. Let's be honest about what this thread is really about: Sandinista's latest excuse to post yet another "I hate everything about America" thread, thereby provoking responses about how biased and hateful he is, which he no doubt enjoys.
An example of objective analysis, understanding modern politics and critical thinking this is not. Let it die at three pages.

I thought the last few posts were about the allies' knowledge of the holocaust?

The maybe form a derail thread? It's a good discussion of history, but it just adds on to sandi's original dumbass post. The Mad Hatter wrote:I thought the last few posts were about the allies' knowledge of the holocaust?

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

I might agree with you that it's an opportunity for Sandinista to post yet another "I hate everything about America" thread, but in fairness to Sandinista, this did just come up in the news recently.Ian wrote:Here's a novel idea: how about we stop inflating knucklehead threads like these with pages worth of posts about how stupid they are. There's no reason why this can't be an intelligent discussion about a current event that is based on a past event. What do people think about Hilary's response? Do people have opinions about whether further reparations to those affected should be made?
Everyone seems to be contributing to it being a thread about hatefulness, whether it's hatefulness towards America or Sandinista.

Sandinista, a little more civility would be appreciated here please.sandinista wrote:How is reporting the news "dumbass"? fuckwit?Ian wrote:The maybe form a derail thread? And in general, to everyone, can we be civil to each other and not resort to name calling?

It is a topic worth discussing, but it does not have to become generalised America bashing. Partly, it is an example of how the Zeitgeist has moved on, but also a telling reminder of abuses of the past. An ostrich-like attitude does not help...
It is also vital to realise that this is something that will occasion revulsion in most of a current generation of Americans, and Obama has already reacted in an appropriate, non-dismissive way...
Also a very good idea...maiforpeace wrote:

Re: United States government deliberately infects...
The United States has done a lot of fucked up things, many of them hidden from the general public. It's astonishing when you read about these things, because we like to think of ourselves as quite a virtuous nation upholding high ideals

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

The Obama administration, upon learning about this piece of news, has apologized. What else do you want? Do you think we Americans ought to be ashamed of this? I'm not in the least. Sure, it's a shameful thing, but I don't feel obliged to feel guilty about something a handful of people in my grandfather's generation were secretly involved with.
I'm all for discussing current events, but I think we all know Sandinista had another agenda in posting the OP. It's not to discuss the news, but to use a piece of 70-year old history as a means of generalized America-bashing. His initial comments suggest nothing else. So yes, I'm hateful towards him. He deserves nothing more than ridicule, and he doesn't seem to ever get it through his thick head that his perpetually angry posts are not the sort of thing upon which this forum is founded.
