Bin Laden on climate change

A new audio message purporting to come from al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden is on Islamist websites, say reports.

In it "Bin Laden" expresses concern over natural disasters and calls for greater aid efforts for the victims, said US-based intelligence group Site.

The 11-minute undated tape shows a still image of Bin Laden and scenes of people in disaster zones receiving aid.

The tape would be Bin Laden's first public comments since March, but its authenticity has not been confirmed.

In the recording, the voice says more people are affected by climate change than wars, and appears to refer to recent flooding in Pakistan.

"The catastrophe (in Pakistan) is very big and it is difficult to describe it," says the voice.

"What we are facing... calls for generous souls and brave men to take serious and prompt action to provide relief for their Muslim brothers in Pakistan."

The tape said a "capable relief task force" should be established to deal with disasters in Muslim countries and to study regions at risk from flooding and climate change, the AFP news agency reports.

It also called for greater investment in agriculture, saying the issue was "not about gains or losses, but about life or death."

In March this year, another message said to be from Bin Laden threatened Americans would be killed if the US executed the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Mr Mohammed is currently facing trial in the US along with four other people suspected of being involved in the attacks.

In a previous recording said to be of Bin Laden, broadcast in January, he blamed the US for global warming.

Bin Laden is the world's most-wanted man, with the US offering a reward of up to $25m (£17m) for information leading to his capture.

One theory is that he is hiding in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but has evaded capture despite a massive US operation to find him.

In January, US Secretary Robert Gates said he had received no reliable information on his whereabouts for "years".

Maybe he thinks Muslims should be helping a bit more than they are in Pakistan. Maybe about the same amount as the hateful West. I could be wrong though, but I'm not a fanatical beardy cunt, so I can't be as bad a him, if he's even still alive.

Terrorism and war are much the same thing.
In a war, if you are the agressor, you try to get your way with violence, and if you're defending, you're doing the same thing, trying to stop agression with violence of your own.

I experience two opposite feelings about terrorism and acts of war.
Take the bombing of Hiroshima. I'm desperately sorry for people who lost their lives, or were horribly injured or bereaved.
I'm also glad that Japan as a nation suffered, they deserved to, for what they dished out.

I feel the same about 9/11. I'm equally sorry for individuals and families that suffered and lost loved ones. I'm also glad that the US got it's fat ass kicked, with a taste of their own medicine.

People used to freely walk around the bars in New York and Chicago and Boston, collecting for "the lads" , ie, the IRA, so that they could bomb and murder. The US govornment did nothing, so were complicit in that.
Anyone who gave money, or didn't stop the collections was just as much a terrorist as those who planted the bombs.

And the Palestinians have been terrorised for years by american bombs, bullets, planes, helicopters, and even pilots and soldiers who were clearly american.

The people who flew the planes on 9/11 must have been fully convinced that they were the defenders, not agressors. The germans soldiers in the two world wars would have said the same thing, and usually did, when they chatted to their captors.

So the west regards Bin Laden as a guilty terrorist, but many arabs are equally convinced he is bravely fighting back against a US terrorist state.
I'm with Bin Laden there. If the americans had left them alone, the arabs would never have produced people like him.
.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Political Islam was killing Muslims long before 9-11 and I somehow doubt that Bin Laden ever really gave a shit about the IRA.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Just a theory?

He's actually been hiding behind the sofa this whole time.

I am here. :levi:

My opinion: He's not hiding in a cave somewhere in the borderlands. He's sequestered himself in an apartment in Peshawar. TBH, I think this would make him much tougher to find.

I should also note that, while I sometimes read various reports related to Al Qaeda, bin Laden and other aspects of terrorism, my job has very, very little to do with terrorism.

Another theory: bin Laden has been caught and kept cryogenically frozen in a White House closet, and Obama will un-freeze him and then announce his "capture" in October 2012, just before the next US Presidential election. I'm not entirely sold on this theory as much as on the one about Peshawar...
