given the extreme oppressive attitude the muslims have on the other minorities, that's one of the first I eliminated right after saudi arabia and pakistan...

My best guess would be a country in subsaharan west or central Africa where the muslims are mixed with other faiths and far enough from Egypt that they have mellowed out (obviously not Nigeria)

Read Ayaan Hirsi Ali's Infidel and you get a good idea how quickly fundamentalist Islamic clerics can turn general Islamic practice from relatively liberal to dogmatic extremism. Also, how quickly during civil upheaval and war people who are displaced and starving change their ethics and lose altruism.

The OP says "Muslim majority country". 24 of the 47 countries in this list are either secular or have no official state religion.

Also... there are countries that have a state religion that are in practice secular, such as the UK. I suppose it works the other way too though.

Fuck! Howard insisted that Australia was a christian country, and we voted in a way that he was our Prime Minister for twelve years. I'd not surprised if Senegal or Burkina were our golden egg... though Sénégal is marred by the talibé phenomenon : children indentured to marabouts (holy men/teachers) who are supposed to be educated in koran schools, but actually spend a lot more time begging or otherwise making their master money than studying.

Hirsi ali is from Somalia, a place in Eastern Africa and definitely not anything I suggested... far too close to Egypt and extremist influences coming from the Arabic peninsula and Pakistan via the Indian ocean.
