I have a keen urge to resist radians...should I drop it?

Post by Dory » Wed Sep 22, 2010 2:40 pm

I kinda been liking degrees and there comes along Mr. textbook and says "scientists use radians more, it's more practical"...or something along these lines. Isn't it like switching a keyboard format after all this time? I kinda got used to QWERTY :(

I seem to have a keen urge to resist it and sticking to degrees...should I drop it and look upon arrogantly at those who use degrees henceforth?

You NEED to use radians. Degrees are like stabiliser wheels on a bike - sooner or later you have to take them off if you want to go faster! Can't do calculus on trig functions proper with degrees. :tea:

Yup, get them under your belt you'll need them.

I didn't do them before I came to uni, and I found that to be somewhat of a disadvantage (in my case it was for analogue electronics).

:+1: I always hated rads and my brain felt clumsy for a few days when I had not done anything with them for a while, but rads are The Way, can't help it.

The embedded trigonometry functions in most (maybe all) programming languages/applications take radians as opposed to plain old degrees as their arguments. Can't avoid 'em I'm afraid. :read:

EDIT: Anyway, converting between degrees and radians on the fly is easy-peasy.
