We saw "Devil" today. Going in I was wondering how much action they could pull off in 49 square feet. Going out, same.

Watched American History X, City of Lost Children.

I also watched Ninja Assassin but that doesn't belong in this thread.

Lady Hux went to see some scenes from Captain America being filmed near her work in Manchesters Northern Quarter. Apparently the area looks a bit like 1940s Manhattan.

Yes, I was a bit depressed about it, but in a nice way!

It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Just saw Easy A.

9/10
Sure to be on any list of the best comedies of 2010, Easy A is a high school comedy written by adults, for adults, which is hard to pull off. But Emma Stone, plus the wunder-casting of Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci as her greatest-parents-a-girl-could-ever-have-only-in-your-dreams, plus a script that never stops driving forward ahead into the next part of the story and the next... it makes you wonder why more major studio films aren't like this one. Imagine if the characters in Clueless were smart. Imagine if the wit of Mean Girls wasn't so obvious. Imagine a movie that took the best of 80s teen romantic comedies and added in a heaping portion of heart and a dash of not-pandering. That's Easy A, and it deserves an award. Maybe a Golden Globe or two.

I'm not sure I can exactly explain yet why I feel compelled to knock off a point. Maybe because a film like this one can't really be compared to a film like Inception. Possibly because my suspension of disbelief was shattered every time Amanda Bynes' character opened her mouth. Mostly because I didn't realize until near the end of the film that the first character who Olive pretends to have sex with (a gay guy) was not the same person she ends up with at the end (a straight guy). They looked so similar that I didn't follow along with their different names. And then they looked very much like two other guys in the movie who treat Olive badly. I know that this generation of young men is particularly adept at all looking identical, but the filmmakers should have given the audience more distinguishing features to notice.

Nonetheless, a great comedy.

Did I remember to mention not to bother with Resident Evil?
