My son hates this avatar. He averts his eyes every time he walks by. I know one thing for certain, he at least got one good eyeful.

it's fine by me. I'd like to leave the thread open for a while longer to continue the debrief. I'm hoping to get some feedback that can help with my next game. and I still have some thoughts about town strategies in a "sprinkles" style game.

This is the second game I've designed where town was mostly vanilla-plus. I'm not sure if other GMs have or will use the concept, but there are definitely some things for town to think about when they realize the special abilities are spread out that way.

Yes, I agree - we should have all come out stating what we know.

It's hard to say if there'll be another game run this way.... but, if so, it will likely be run by you.

I think we have learned quite a bit from this game.

Also, another thing I noticed - with myself - is to sort of follow original instincts on who you find suspicious. Because, scum have a lot of time to make up for that and sort of make things unclear for you after that... hence, making you think twice about them.

And that's when it gets complicated. The more time scum are set into their role, it seems, the more comfortable they are. And the harder it is for town to pick them out of the group.

With Irre being killed off first... and looking back at her posts, I found that she didn't leave many hints behind. I noted that she did make sure to state that she hoped that Charlou was viewed... and I guess that was because she knew that she was the boss... and that seems sort of obvious now. But, at the time, it didn't. Irre, you did a good job of making who you were aligned with very unclear for town... at least for me!

that's part of scum's job - to not implicate anyone in case you're one of the early ones to be found.

The other part, and IMO this can be huge, is to look less scummy than the most scummy looking town players. If you have a reputation for being tricky scum, that's not always enough - you have to be less scummy looking than nearly all of town.

So, town players have to look pretty damn townish so they don't muddy the waters too much.

I thought town players did a good job of looking pro-town mostly. but the scum team really did a good job of also looking like town. with all of town giving off special tells, it was inevitable that some of them would be mistaken for scum. It can be really difficult to sort special tells from scum tells, especially with relatively inexperienced players.

Whenever a player suggests that another player be viewed it makes me suspicious because I know that they know that certain scum roles come up innocent and it is a distraction ploy. It is a con to get people to trust the person viewed.

Zigmen should know that.

Ah hell, I was on your team this game and I wasn't sure if I could trust you. You're a devious, devious player.

Mmm... yes. This is true.

Just kiddin... kind of...

Oblivion, you mentioned that specials tend to look scummy. I notice this as well... but I wonder what it is? Probably because there is a sense that there is something to hide, from them.

sense of something to hide is part of it. the other part is worrying about being killed because personal survival is more important to winning when you are a special or scum. Inexperienced players tend to play like personal survival matters, too.

And, there is a similarity of outlook and intent between the doctor and scum. both are a little obsessed with finding the seer, though for opposite reasons. This means that both the doctor and scum will sometimes visibly key in on the same posts by other players.
