Climate Change over! (it's now "Climate Disruption")

Post by Santa_Claus » Fri Sep 17, 2010 7:39 pm

Global warming could be a thing of the past, thanks to the Barack Obama administration.

White House science adviser John Holdren urged the public to use the phrase 'global climate disruption'
During a speech in Oslo, Norway, Mr Holdren said global warming is a ‘dangerous misnomer’ and is not an accurate description of the issues facing the planet.

The real reason is that it ain't warming. It did warm, and it stopped warming fifteen years ago. So people are starting to point out that WARMING means it's still happening, when it isn't.
And as climate is ALWAYS changing, disruption is really no better. It's like disrupting the wind. It doesn't mean anything.

Climate Change is Climate Change. Climate 'disruption' understates the severity of the issue - backed by numerous studies from qualified individuals and supported by the vast majority of climate scientists.

Call it if the North Atlantic drift changes direction or stops some of us will be facing a local Ice-age . And as we freeze gradually to death the last printing of certain tabloid newspapers will be running with the headline
What Global Warming Scientists were wrong !

I've got a friend who keeps sending me stuff he's cropped from the Daily Mail Online. I wish he'd stop it and tell me about how he's doing instead!

15 years is weather, not climate.

By the time we find Obama's birth certificate, we will have to stop President Palin's drilling because the arctic has melted.

15 years added on to the pre-existing two hundred.

Ice cores are a climatologist's friend.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

It's amazing. It's climate when it warms, it's weather when it doesn't.
It doesn't matter what you call it. The only record we have of climate for a period when CO2 is significantly raised by human activity is the period since WW2, when cars and electrical gadgets really took off.
In that period, since 1945, we had cooling for the first 30 years, warming for the next twenty, and virtually no change for the last fifteen. It's hardly something you should be building a theory on.

If you belittle the last fifteen years of steady climate as insignificant, how can you take the twenty years of rising temps so seriously? And how can you discount the previous 30 years of cooling?

There is some seriously biased selection going on, when climate is discussed.

And why is the period from 1910 to 1945 always included in the discussion? Not because we were producing a lot of CO2. We weren't. CO2 production levels were completely insignificant, and hardly rising at all, till 1948. It's included just because the climate warmed, so people can talk about bigger numbers.

So as far as I'm concerned, if you want an honest debate, talk about the period from 1945, and make your argument out of thirty years of cooling, twenty years of warming, and fifteen years of steady temperatures.
