I'd like to report revolutionist and starr for trolling. It appears that they continue to post in this thread just to get a raise out of members and nothing more positive to contribute. And I'm not joking.

In response to the person/people who asked for evidence of post deletions at RatSkep, I don't have any. The claim was based on two things: hearsay and my own belief that RatSkep staff are running that forum the same way the RDF forum was run.

I don't remember post deletion being used as a purposeful moderation technique on Rational Skepticism, but I don't remember it on the Richard Dawkins Forums, either. A couple of my posts have been deleted from Rational Skepticism in thread splits, but they were posts that were made moot by the splits anyway. I don't know whether those deletions were purposeful or accidental, but I personally don't see it as part of the problem there.

And so it goes. Here is the truth - none of your posts were deleted. Posts are not deleted, precisely because of what happened at RD.net.

Rightly or wrongly (and there is debate as to which) the entire thread was removed.

The current staff policy is to remove threads if the entire premise for the thread breaches the FUA. This does not happen very often.

The staff also remove individual posts from threads at times.

And that was posted in the official modnote format. Be prepared for a bit of backpedalling. Claiming that removal from public access is not the same as deletion will be the next logical step, but guess what? Functionally speaking, there is no difference between the two.

rEvolutionist, There is a huge difference between personal attacks and telling the truth. Telling the truth is merely stating the way things are.

For instance, if some says something like "Some of the folks from ratskep rode into town to "set the record straight," they acted like a bunch of weenies and they got their asses handed to them," that's not a personal attack. That is simply telling it like it is.

In fact... not only am I not breaking any rules... I am actually posting in the 'Rationalia StyleTM'. I've been given a warning here before for posting on-topic. I think it is important to modify one's posting style to fit in with the culture of the forum one is participating in.

This particular forum likes to allow free speech and any dramaz that may result from that free speech are diffused/dismissed with ridicule, satire and derails (preferably involving puns and lots of smilies).

Telling the truth is merely stating the way things are.

If I said "You are a liar", it would be telling the truth if you have in fact been lying. It would also be a personal attack. Alternately I could say what you said was a lie because you said something that was untrue and you knew it to be untrue. That would be conveying the same message without constituting a personal attack. [/derail]
