Goddamnit.

Post by Trolldor » Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:31 am

We have a hung parliament. An equal 72 so far with three independants courting, and one independant... well, independant.
This and Britain's circumstances have, more than anything, outlined the absurdity of the Westminster system. More than that, it means we will get a Government that never won the right to Govern via election.
Unless, of course, no party gains the support they need in which case we are left in the clutches of another election.

Marvellous.

But Mr. Abbott, one of our prospective leaders, has had a rant at Ms. Gillard for throwing off some of the shackles of Parliamentary tradition, accusing her of undermining the very system that got us in to this nonsensical mess in the first place. Not least of which are his numerous gaffes, his attitude towards women, his extreme conservatism that would make Republicans blush, and his overt and excessive Catholicism.
On top of that, we have Ms. Julia Gillard who is nobody.
And I mean that sincerely. She has no well-defined convictions, she plays the party card. There are a few brief glimpses every now and then that maybe there's something more to her, but she never lets it out.
So, that got me thinking... her rapid adoption of the Independant's requests, her want for breaking tradition, is that just a political ploy in an attempt to win power? Or is there maybe an opportunity for something else there?

Well, irrespective of what happens, I'm just about to kill the lot of them. With fire.

Welcome to the club. We have a coalition here now as you may well know - the first since WW2.

I have to say I have been surprised at how well it has been working. I don't agree with a lot of their policies - we are going to get poorer here as a result of them, but some have an up side - for example they really do seem intent on making the 'dead hand of the state' lighter - I see evidence of that in my work.

The guiding light in all their decisions is "what will win us the next election"?
I thought the coalition would never last, but the Liberals are now in such dire straits that they wouldn't dare rock the boat. The Tories don't need to give an inch now, so it might go the distance.
Cameron has got Clegg by the balls and they both know it.

We are still waiting for a decision as to who is going to sit in our cabinet. They wanted that settled in June.
