I think we proved that, a while ago, when we opened the place to hundreds of angry and confused RDF refugees and let them vent and bitch . I don't think the staff at rationalia will be censoring this thread or hiding it where it can't be seen . If that isn't obvious to you just ask Josh or Richard

It's apples and oranges. Different forums with different foci, styles and rules. You know what you're getting in each and, for me at least, that's the attraction of each. I find Ratz and Ratskep to be complimentary rather than competitive, where I can post with different styles depending on which forum I'm logged on to. There's people I admire and respect in each forum and others...meh, not so much. But that's the nature of being in any large group of diverse people.

I'd personally like to see this "us against them" thing dissipate, particularly when coming from people with feet in both camps.

Disclaimer: I've not really been over to RatSkep for months now. So this is more like a general observation.

If you treat anyone as if they were a piece of shit, you tend to get bad behavior in return. If, on the other hand, you treat people as if they had brains, conscience, and courage, something like 90-99 % tend to come up with those - or at least try. Self-fulfilling prophesies abound in the discipline craft/art, IME (mother, scout leader, and college/university lecturer).

There definitely is such a thing as over-disciplining kids or students - and it's not wise. I suspect one can also over-moderate a forum.

With more mods and more delegation, you're getting more complexity and eventually you'll need one rule and then another... Once you don't have a situation where just about everybody knows everybody, it gets qualitatively different.

The Richard Dawkins forums operated fine for a long time without the sexism/racism rules, and never had group attack rules that I know of, and it was much bigger than either Rationalia or Rational Skepticism.
