To be precise, it is only compulsory to turn up at the polling booth, get your name ticked off, and receive your ballot papers. Current upshot seems to be a hung parliament, with an equal number of seats to the incumbent ruling party (Labour) and Her Majesty's loyal opposition (The coalition between the Liberals and the Nationals)
There are 4 or 5 seats held by independents, and one Green. The Green will vote with Labour, but the independents will probably be seduced by the opposition, so I am betting Australia will have a rabid, right wing catholic PM in a week or so...
