Dawkins faith schools programme...

Post by julietooo » Fri Aug 20, 2010 9:22 am

Did anyone else watch it? And did anyone else want to strangle that stupid fucking 'teacher' who didn't know how to respond to the kid asking why apes are still around? What a joke.

Missed it. Do you have details? I might be able to watch it on demand.

No wonder the other religions didn't even let Dawklns in the door in the first place. I have no idea what possessed the Muslim school authorities to let Dawkins come in and show them up so badly. It was cringe-worthy, and then some. :nono:

It was on More4 on Wednesday night. Check your schedules for repeats, and Channel 4 on Demand: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/4od

EDIT: It's currently featured in the top menu banner. :smoke:

It was called 'Faith Schools Menace?' It was on More4 - you can definitely get it on 4od.
It was actually so painful to watch. Apparently these (state funded) faith schools use normal Ofsted inspectors for everything apart from RE where they have their own special religious inspectors.
Also, according to the dickhead teacher previously mentioned, all her Biology students somehow concluded that evolution was false. Funny that. Perhaps because she was teaching it like a douche, alongside the Koran.

Yeah, seen it. The more I think about this matter the more I don't want my kids, should I have any, going to a Catholic run school (which is most in this country) and will definitely put them in an Educate Together school.

Totally.

Yay! They all look so happy!
I was in Waitrose the other day and I was given a little green token to put in a collection box thing...they have about 3 different boxes for different causes. I think they count the tokens up and donate money to each cause. The faith school box had loads of tokens in, whereas the community school box had about 4. Wtf! Mine went in the community school box.

Also, has anyone seen this?

In Oz, at least, the science programs in catholic schools are identical to state schools. I teach evolution without hindrance...

Technically that's true here... But in the example in the Dawkins program, it sounds like at least one faith counters that with a healthy dose of "but you can ignore all that because this book says otherwise" in its RE class. :( And when their headteacher rolls out "it's just a theory" you know there's no hope. Dawkins pointedly said after a class of girls wrote off evolution and science in general, "and you're the one that wants to be a Doctor, is that right?"

She was their fucking science teacher! I could not believe it. :banghead:

It's clear they haven't been taught any real science - the girl that talked about the Koran having answers about things that science has only just discovered - like sea water and drinking water never mixing!

:wtf:

There's no excuse for it really - I'm shocked that the government let this happen - they had a chance to make all schools secular, but instead they made more faith schools. But I suppose that's what Blair wanted. :nono:
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

He's ok now. He turned Catholic, confessed and everything's all better.
