There is something in what you say, red, especialy about the potential for radicalisation, in the context of how moderate muslims are treated...

However, Islam does want to play by separate rules. It wants no opposition to building mosques anywhere in the west, or it will cry foul and enlist the help of the confused left to assist... (deep down, the left is for the high jump when the world-wide caliphate is established...)

But of course, different rules apply when the filthy infidels wish to display their particular delusion on the holy ground of islam (which is a work in progress, the fundamentalists certainly want it to be the entire Earth)
Wherever there is a Muslim community - no matter the country - there are girls and women that have been circumcised, and yes even sewn up. Fuck acceptance of the Muslim religion and faith. I've no tolerance for this fair and equal 'culture' bullshit. Islam is not just 'another culture', nor is it a 'religion of peace', nor is it 'misunderstood or misrepresented' by the fanatics. It is, to its very core, a vile, corruptive, mysoginistic, primitive, hypocritical, apocalyptic, bigoted regime led by arrogant, self-aggrandizing Imams who seek to destroy every shred of individuality, every ounce of rational thought, any portent of literary criticism.

IMO public ridicule of the ideas is the only way to really combat Islam. That free speech clause is a great one and I am rather pleased that we have it in our Constitution.

I agree that Islam is a horrible religion, but I'm really kinda nervous about being in agreement with bigots who despise it because not for what it is, but because it is seen as a "brown people's" religion. I think a good deal of the left is has gone beyond a vague worry and lost it's way in a deep dark panic over it.

AMERICA!
Not perfect, but not as bad as one might think sometimes.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I've been waiting for an issue like this to pop up in the States. We've been dealing with issues like this for quite some time in Europe, especially on the continent. Switzerland banned minarets. Nothing happened, except that we established our right to run our own country, and our identity as a non-Muslim country. France banned the burqa. Again, a step forward. As much as it sounds immature, part of what I think's going on is that we're showing them "who's boss", so to speak.

I would be in favour of banning the construction of mosques. I don't care if churches are allowed; why should we let another cancer proliferate simply because we've been unable to get rid of the first one? Any building that symbolizes the presence of Islam, or could aid and abet its strength in the west, is dangerous and should be avoided. I'm also unimpressed by warnings of increasing the violent reactions of Muslims by doing so- there may be a temporary backlash, but with no social gathering places for prayer, the next few generations will grow up on democracy, western cultural aesthetic standards, and all the personal comforts that a country like the US can offer. They will have been successfully co-opted.

The coward slave, we pass him by
We dare be puir for a' that.

I find it disconcerting that so many on here would limit people's rights just because they're religious. It's their delusion and they've every right to have it, even if you reckon religion has an unfair leg-up in our society.

If you want to be able to decry the fatwa on cartoonists and what have you, then you must respect free speech that goes the other way as well... a few exception being obvious, like the incitement of violence, etc.

I wouldn't oppose the building of a mosque for the same reasons. Plus, by restricting the rights of Muslims we make them more likely to back away from us and seek shelter in more extreme forms of their own religion.

No.
I refuse to accept that female circumcision is an act of religious freedom.

Well that's simply child abuse, no question about it.

Basically, if islamic groups protest against any restriction against building mosques in western countries, they are being hypocritical, given the total ban imposed in the country that is the heart of their religion...
Unless there is some way to show that all Muslims support the ban in Saudi Arabia then I don't see how this statement could possibly be true.

Okay, I just read the term 'NAMBLA' in here, and Googled it.

That surely cannot be for real?

The name alone sounds as if it is from a Monty Python sketch.
