Fuck me... it's not a religion, it's looking to impose on the constitution?

As opposed to the boatloads of Christian hypocrites trying to doctor history so that the founding fathers come across as wanting the country to be tempered by beautiful Christian thought?

As Bill Hicks says, this is what fundamentalism breeds... no irony... they take the word literally... so they don't realise how far they stray from their own principles in these matters.

Well, the list goes on.
Not the same thing. Them not wanting a mosque isn't the same as it being disapproved by zoning commitions or it violating legislation.

no more mosques, no more churches, no more temples. Enough with the bullshit already...although, for pure humor sake, I hope the mosque gets built to watch some americans cry.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Is that a typical American reaction? Nationally, I think we're much more prone to flying into a rage than crying. IMO. :eddy:

The fact that Saudi Arabia permits no building of non-Islamic churches seems pertinent here...

It would be if USA decided to violate the Establishment Clause.

If churches, synagogues and temples are allowed, mosques must be too. So whether crying or rage, there will be some unhappy Americans according to this article.

Basically, if islamic groups protest against any restriction against building mosques in western countries, they are being hypocritical, given the total ban imposed in the country that is the heart of their religion...

Having said that, it could also be argued that western countries need to show their relative freedom and tolerance by allowing the building of mosques...

Perhaps a big, compuslsory billboard outside everyone of them in the west, saying "This would be impossible for a non-islamic religion in Mecca"

Hypocritical? Of course they are, their religious nuts. You expect some kind of reason and rationality? Just saying, only compare the US and Saudi if you want to say that the US is a christian fundamentalist country. In reality I would say burn em all.

The only way to get rid of Islam is to patiently wait for it to fuck up and make it's stinking move. As long as it's just lurking in the shadows, we can't do anything.

The Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

All members of the armed forces swear to "...defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic."

So. Congress may not make any law forcing anyone to respect any stinking religion, and the armed forces have all threatened to overthrow stinking congress if it does.

Therefore our right to gather in disrespect and opposition to the establishment of any stinking mosque is guaranteed by the constitution and protected by the armed forces.

However, we cannot constitutionally prohibit the building of mosques at the present time.

OTOH, the Constitution is amendable. Any organization rightfully deemed a threat to the Constitution may be banned. Specifically, I'm thinking of political entities hostile to the Constitution, posing as religious entities.

The hammer may rightfully come down on (All) enemies, foreign or domestic.

So, go ahead, any of you sorry bastards, politikers, false religions, whatever. Make our fucking day. Step out of line, the Man comes, and takes you away.

I respect the rights of people to build their buildings and freely assemble therein, although I think much of what they say is utter bollocks.

A also respect the rights of people to freely assemble make a big stink about the other people building their buildings and freely assembling therein, although I think much of what they say is utter bollocks.

I cannot help but think that if there had never been any plans to build a mosque near ground zero, then much of this vitriol would not be spewing forth.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
