The newest Karate Kid, Jaden Smith is African American. I think the prior one, Ralph Macchio is Italian American.

But the new Mr. Miyagi is Jackie Chan and that's all that matters.

[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Jesus bloody wept! I've just googled.

Karate Kid remake?
Why not go the whole hog and re-make Ishtar, staring Kermit the Frog?

Movie studio: "Hmm... can't think of original idea... I know! let's re-hash a classic into a modern piece of garbage and make millions off a famous title. Ch ching!"

Not to mention being "socially relevant" by making it a black kid.

I'd hardly call the original a classic. It was a formulaic piece of dreck, made nearly intolerable by the insufferable Ralph Macchio. The new one, however, looks pretty cool (though I haven't seen it yet). And Will Smith's kid exudes charm, like his father.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

I've seen it.
The original was better.

awful film...just awful. There is NO karate in it whatsoever. It's all about kung fu. Kung fu kid...maybe, still terrible, but at the very least accurate.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

I liked the original. Haven't seen the new one, and probably won't until it's free on HBO.
