A war with the Asian-pacific

Post by Lozzer » Tue Aug 03, 2010 4:06 pm

North Korea are threatening the west again for a second military exercise due to take place on Thursday. Obviously it went without incidence last time, but in retaliation, the Chinese are holding their own "low-key" games. Should relations worsen, and war was on the asian horizon, what would happen in international politics? This is speculation, but should a third world war occur, what states would be the allies and which the axis? I can see China being a heavy antagonist with extreme military force, but their defense and perpetuation of a successful war would depend on alliances with other Eastern states.

Frankly, China can't really afford a war.
It's populous is in a pressure cooker.

Mao used to speculate that China could afford a nuclear war with the USA because if could spare 'a few million people'.

There won't be war in the short or medium term though I am sure. It is in nobody's interest. The stakes aren't high enough if it is just about N Korea.

Right now the issues are strategic - mostly resources and China is 'colonising' large parts of Africa rather quietly with an eye to developing resources. It is likely to be pressure over those resources which spark conflict if indeed there is conflict at some point.

Isn't NATO responsible for something like 70% of all military spending? We can take them.

China owns a lot of US debt. How much would that be worth if there's a war?

Somewhat related tangent: If you want job security, get your employer to lend you money!
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Goddamn. That's wisdom incarnate. Machiavelli would like to ask your advice on a few things.

Sort of hard to own debt if you no longer exist..

Apparently China are getting sick of being seen as the North's patrons, though. It's not good for their international image and if they want to become that next superpower, they need to start interacting positively with the West.

Well, if we follow the rule that "China always attacks when an enemy reached the Yalu" and North Korea becomes an enemy of China . . .

Eventually they will. Like I said, China need to start re-aligning themselves to get the greatest profit they can out of Western nations, as far as I'm aware.

Sort of like the US befriending Germany and Japan after WWII?
