Did you see the move "300"? They had an incredible strategy to fight their enemies. Strategy gets more sophisticated as years move on, so more sophisticated angles are required.

If you think that we can't have a world where there is peace then I feel so sad that your spirit has been broken to such an extent.

My spirit is not broken. It is for world peace that I joined a youth group associated with a church when I was young.Meekychuppet wrote:It has happened in Scandinavia.kiki5711 wrote:If it was possible it would have happened.Meekychuppet wrote:Doesn't matter. I had incredible experiences helping people and thought I was making the world a better place.
I also learned the church leaders were damn drug addicted croocks.

I realise that your whole military life you were told certain things about what you were doing but in reality you were like every other enrolled rating/officer/whatever. You were a hired gun. You weren't paid or permitted to think, and whilst the willingness to walk in to the line of fire is admirable, the subservience and conformity of the military is its strength AND weakness. Every single person I ever met from the military is just like you, utterly devoted and extraordinarily defensive of WHATEVER the military does, often threatening and intimidating those who disagree. You and Ian have performed entirely to type in here. It's disconcertingly similar to religious devotion.
I simply do not accept that the world has to run at gunpoint.

sandinista:
I might have some real problems with US foreign policy and this thread is not where I'll discuss that. But those fuckers in Al Quaida and the Taliban are not my friends. While they might share some of my gripes, their solution both in terms of ends and means are worlds multiverses apart from mine, and I suspect yours as well.
What this comes to is that even though I list the US military intelligence among my potential adversaries, they happen to be engaged in a war against the forces of gratuitous ignorance and oppression in the name of tribalistic sexist religious nutjobbery on level that Fred Phelps would feel rather comfortable with. If some leaks lead the US population to take a more realistic approach to Afghanistan, then that's all fine with me, but if they end up helping the Taliban and other religious nutjobs, then leaking those documents was an act of supreme douchbaggery.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The Net is best considered analogous to communication with disincarnate intelligences. As any neophyte would tell you. Do not invoke that which you have no facility to banish.
