Child beauty pageants.

I don't even like grown-up beauty pageants so these, even less so. I don't think they should be made illegal or anything though. I would just rather stay away from them.
If I had a child like that I'd probably murder them.

Parents rights vis a vis kids is a very dodgy area IMO.

Certainly a grey area. Some parents force their kids to do sport, etc.

There's nothing wrong with forcing your child to exercise (In moderation), and sport is simply one of the only available options for the suburbanites who's children are fat and lazy and won't go outside and play like we did when we were young...

Most kids will exercise on their own, often at inappropriate times. I don't think the kids these days are especially more lazy, but the indoor toys have gotten so much cooler than when I was a kid, and you can watch cartoon 24/7.

I know parents should have the right to do these kind of things with their kids if they want to, but they are grotesquely repulsive IMO.

What's worse iqs that if that kid doesn't grow up to be a butch dyke, she'll probably find even worse ways to traumatize her own children... I bet the boys who got their pipes reamed by clergy and scoutmasters have less problems assimilating the trauma

I think with things like the above, ones where my initial emotional reaction is so strong I find it harder to get the rational side of my brain into gear and mount an argument that goes beyond 'FFS it's a no brainer'. They've started them in the UK, have done for a while now and I find it so sad such an abomination can spread so easily. To me it ranks as highly as religious indoctrination.

THis poor little girl looks horroble. THere's nothing sexy about all that make up she has, even though that's the image she's suppose to give.

Have you seen their mothers? It's a classic case of parents trying to live through their kids, only taken to the extreme. For as much time as those kids spend doing all of that, you'd think there would be a child labor law violation somewhere.

My 7 year old niece found a pair of suede purple high heels that she was fascinated with. She wore them constantly around the house. She became a little leery of them when she started tripping and falling. So, I encouraged her to come to me while I stood outside under a tree, but she had to walk through the rain and the mud to get there...she is no longer entranced with high heels.

I've never understood the point of high heels (not that I've ever had occasion to try them, but the number of female friends who constantly complain while walking on a night out). Is the grip of fashion really that strong, or is there some other reason for them? Why would anyone choose to wear shoes that hurt their feet and make them more likely to fall over? It's like choosing to wear a hat that gives you a headache and makes you sneeze.

As for the child beauty pageants, I see it as just another particularly ugly tentacle of the fashion/beauty industry, which promotes and exploits insecurities about appearance for profit, while crippling individuality and style. And if you get them young, you've probably got them for life. It's pretty horrible but I don't know if there's much that can be done about it.
