What the hell's the matter with you?

If you've ever studied history, then you should have come across something which makes you go "wow'.
Yes, but in an admiring way?

Well, that depends. Notice 'favourite' is in ", so it could mean 'memorable'.

I really doubt that is what Gawdzilla had in mind, but if he did, what about this from the crusade in 1099:

"While Godfrey and his troops secured the northern walls and fought their way deep into the Jewish quarter of the city, Robert of Normandy and Tancred headed for the Temple Mount. Here the Muslim defenders held out for a few hours in the al-Aqsa Mosque. Although Tancred had promised them their lives and left his banner with them as token, the Christian soldiers forced aside his guards and massacred everyone so that 'they were wading in blood up to the ankles'."

Yeah. Like WOW! How memorable.

How is that not memorable? How does that not make you go 'wow'?
Neither imply reverence, or any sort of positive connotation, they're neutral until you put them in a context.

"Nobody hates war more than a veteran." AND "Those who do learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

The above statements are the basis of my study of war. It's like being eye-to-eye with a cobra in full strike mode. Terrifying, yet impossible to look away.

On that basis my "favourite" war is definitely Vietnam. Not saying that Iraq is just like it, but there are unmistakeable (oops) (double-oops) parallels.

And quite a happy time historians will have comparing the two in the future. Hell, I've seen almost fist fights break out over the Punic Wars. A nice fresh steaming bowl of Loosener's Castor Oil Flakes will be a treat for those guys. [/obscure Firesign Theater reference]

Jesus.

Must be a guy thing.
"Her eye was on the sparrow. Her mind was on the dove,
But no one cared and no one dared to speak to her of love.
Her eyes are always hooded. Her claws are sharp as steel.
We teach her not to see too much. We teach her not to feel."

I've always been interested in Military History, I watch "Victory At Sea" with rapt attention when I was 6 yo. :levi:

I've never liked war movies. They upset me.

I've rarely seen one that impressed me. "Hamburger Hill" came closest, I think.

I've heard of that one. I won't be looking it up.

"Maybe he died of natural causes?"
"Natural causes? Half his head was blown away."
"Sounds like a natural cause to me."
