Give? Come-on, we're trying to cut the deficit here!!!
Sell the six northern counties back to Ireland!
make a cost analysis, and you'll be happy to sell them for the symbolic penny... the p;lace is costing the UK a lot more than it's worth... even before you account for the trouble and political disputes.
now, if you want value you might insist it be a silver penny from the times of Henry II

As a retailer I can say that when VAT dropped to 15% nobody batted an eyelid. I would imagine that if it rises from 17.5% to 20% there won't be much grief either, at least on day to day purchases.
There will be a rush on sofas and tellies the day before perhaps.

Wouldn't work. If you defaulted on your debts to us, we'd simply default on our debts to you. Then you'd be even more fucked than you are now.

I can tell you that local governments have now had a five page letter from central government telling them what they should consider when planning cuts. In the name of 'decentralising' they are leaving much of the decision making to local councils in what is clearly an attempt to get themselves off the hook to some extent.
Brace yourselves.

In Oz, there are rumours going around that the UK is heading to a worse situation than Greece...

Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

I think not. Greece had the added problem of dishonestly (inaccurately?) reporting their deficit to the EU.
We do of course have a bit of a perfect storm in that the Conservatives want 'smaller government' industrial revival and are not willing to rely on growth to pay the deficit. Its as if they want to wipe the slate clean and start all over again. It night actually be sensible in its own way, but it is going to cause a lot of pain.
There will be industrial unrest I am sure, but we are after all British - none of that Continental hysteria here don't you know!

But seriously - worse than Greece!? Are you sure this isn't just the Murdoch media whipping-up alarmism in order to push through a 'cut and deregulate everything' agenda?

legalize drugs, tax the rich, fast food, and churches/mosques/synagogues etc., cut military spending in half at least. Good starting points, and go from there.
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Need to be careful of the Swiss guard - perhaps they can be bribed with part of the loot...

Umm, Many of my deliveries are in Wales. If we cut Wales how am I supposed to make those deliveries?

I'd drive to the border, then just fall of the edge of England.
Silly idea.
At least I wouldn't have to carry my passport though.

I run with scissors. It makes me feel dangerous
