We shall see.

BP deserves a serious ass-whoopin' over this shit. Just hoping Obama delivers. But a politician is a politician. Big money talks. :ddpan:

I ment ass isn't a "swear word", it is another name for a domesticated donkey and part of the name of the african wild ass, but not a naughty word.

Mayor Boris Johnson demanded an end to “anti-British rhetoric, buck-passing and name-calling” after days of scathing criticism directed at BP by the President and other US politicians. Former Conservative Party chairman Lord Tebbit branded Mr Obama's conduct “despicable”. And with the dispute threatening to escalate into a diplomatic row, Mr Johnson also appeared to suggest that David Cameron should step in to defend BP. He spoke as the US onslaught against the firm became a “matter of national concern” — especially given its importance to British pensions, which lost much of their value today as BP shares plunged to a 13-year low.
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/ ... britain.do

City investors said the president was jeopardising the pensions of millions with his "excessive" criticism of the energy company following the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Before the accident on April 20, BP was Britain's biggest company, with a stock market value of £122 billion. Since then, £49 billion has been wiped off its value
.
Those fears have been heightened by Mr Obama's increasingly aggressive rhetoric towards BP, which some investors see as an attempt to deflect criticism of his own handling of the crisis. Last month, a White House spokesman said the President's job was to keep his "boot on the throat" of the company.
In the past week, Mr Obama, who insists on referring to BP by its former name British Petroleum, has suggested that its chief executive, Tony Hayward, would have been sacked if he worked for him.
BP's position at the top of the London Stock Exchange and its previous reliability have made it a bedrock
of almost every pension fund in the country, meaning its value is crucial to millions of workers. The firm's dividend payments, which amount to more than £7 billion a year, account for £1 in every £6 paid out in dividends to British pension pots.
There is particular anger at US interference in the company's dividend policy. Earlier this week, two senators suggested BP should be banned from paying out to shareholders until the full clean-up costs are known. One fund manager said: "Who is Obama to dictate whether UK pension funds are paid a dividend? Others in a similar position have been able to pay dividends."

Who is Obama to dictate whether pension funds are paid a dividend? What? That's a SURPRISE? Nobody saw such a thing coming? Christ! That's who ran in 2008, and that's who the world embraced. This is what was wanted. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Well, of course! How often does Obama or any other major political figure do anything that isn't orchestrated? It happens, but rarely. I know this was just rhetoric and posturing, but I hope it leads to a hammer-down on BP to the point that Big Oil, Inc. get their shit together enough to prevent, or at least effectively deal with, such cluster-fucks in the future.

I can't think of a politician I wouldn't say that about.

The only bit of politics as usual that this Administration has changed is to do it more.

Wasn't this administration going bring us fundamental change? Oh, right...that was more bullshit, orchestrated PR move...
