If...
If...
If your respective government was brought into a state of war with another country because of its own radical and faulty behaviour, and you knew the opposing country was innocent and undeserving if attack, would you betray your nation to the opposing country by becoming a spy or a rebel? Could you do that knowing that your own country would suffer a foreign occupation for an innumerable amount of years?

Re: If...
Well there are a lot of 'ifs' there. If we assume that the opposing country isn't one which in other respects is nasty (say a dictatorship or Theocracy) then yes. One's nationality is as random as the religion you were born into. If you don't like what your country does you can either ignore it, as long as it leaves you alone more or less (which is what billions of people throughout the world do) or you can work to change it.Lozzer wrote:If your respective government was brought into a state of war with another country because of its own radical and faulty behaviour, and you knew the opposing country was innocent and undeserving if attack, would you betray your nation to the opposing country by becoming a spy or a rebel? Re: If...
If there was proof positive AND I was unable in any other way to see/use/distribute this proof (For example in a police state, with no free speech, no freedom of the press etc. etc.) AND assuming that the "end" was ONLY to overthrow the corrupt leadership and NOT to bomb the infrastructure to shit, then possibly.

Sure why do you think my great-grandfather moved to Ireland from England?

Provided the country getting its ass kicked wasn't oppressive, I would protest and publicly criticize my government but I would not spy against it.Lozzer wrote:If your respective government was brought into a state of war with another country because of its own radical and faulty behaviour, and you knew the opposing country was innocent and undeserving if attack, would you betray your nation to the opposing country by becoming a spy or a rebel? Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

I already regard dog poo as a higher lifeform than the politicos I have available, let alone those in power... for the right price (which need not be high, just right), I'd gladly betray them... heck, I might applaud if the Germans invaded again.Lozzer wrote:If your respective government was brought into a state of war with another country because of its own radical and faulty behaviour, and you knew the opposing country was innocent and undeserving if attack, would you betray your nation to the opposing country by becoming a spy or a rebel? If I didn't have kids, I'd betray my own nation.... partly for the ethics, partly for the excitement of it all. As it is, I'd keep my head down and get on with life.devogue wrote:I would do nothing.

Couldn't care less about this or any other government, political issue etc so I wouldn't do anything that might jeopardize my life and lives of those close to me, it simply isn't worth it. Politicians can take care of their own arses.
