Now wise the fuck up and repeal the ban.
Re: Now wise the fuck up and repeal the ban.
Confusing isn't it !!!
There is a worrying trend emerging that needs to be addressed urgently.
There is a huge amount of confusion regarding the nomenclature of mephedrone, methylone and related compounds that has the potential for serious health implications.
I have seen people refer to 4-methylmethcathinone (mephedrone) using various different misleading and dangerously confusing or just plain incorrect nomenclature.
Mcat - which to me would mean methcathinone and has done for many years before mephedrone appeared. I have also heard people use this term in reference to methylone.
Methylone - bk-MDMA. Has been around for several years longer than the other substances being discussed here and appears to be rather safe.
Methadrone - Means nothing.
Methadone- A synthetic mu-opioid agonist which bears no relation to mephedrone or any of the other drugs discussed in this forum.
Methedrone - 4-Methoxymethcathinone or bk-PMMA. Analogous to the infamous PMA and 4-MTA amphetamines. These drugs caused deaths when they were distributed in ecstasy tablets. It is likely that the cathinone analogue would carry similar risks.
I think you will agree there is potential for real harm here especially considering street dealers and headshops are selling mephedrone and various other related compounds and that bk-PMMA is now available on the grey market from the same places selling mephedrone.
One scenario would be bk-PMMA being misrepresented as mephedrone, either by accident or on purpose and harming or even killing people. This could happen at any stage of the distribution chain, as the Haupt 2c-b fly fiasco has demonstrated the vast majority of grey market chemical suppliers have absolutely no business handling hazardous chemicals.
So basically I see a potentially serious problem here but have no idea what,if anything we as a community can do to try and avoid, or at least minimise the chances of things getting too serious.

No real need it's cheap anyway ....make it illegal and then watch the price rise and the purity go down . Prohibition NEVER works! for 40 years the same failed policy (more if you count the prohibition of alcohol in the US) has been used to make citizens criminals and criminals richer and more powerful .RuleBritannia wrote:It'll be killing people soon enough, now that it's illegal crimal gangs will be adding all kinds of shit to it to bring down production costs.

Not to mention the trade-off in the cost to life and health. No need for cement boots (coverall metaphor there) when it's legal.Feck wrote:No real need it's cheap anyway ....make it illegal and then watch the price rise and the purity go down . The government routinely add drugs to the prohibited list purely on the grounds that they are chemically related to currently banned drugs anyway. Mephedrone would have been banned with or without any deaths.
