Do mafia get together and agree to a mafia self-sacrificing (to attract mafia votes as a screen)?

If a mafia does this and the mafia wins, does he still claim to be a winner?

I've not seen it. mafia generally don't like being killed because their role is such fun.

Well, for what it's worth - and it may not be worth anything very much, it may simply reflect people's usual habits - I checked all the players at 16.30 UK time and all had been openly online on their last visit except for the following four, who were last online with hidden status:

Virphen
Sifaka
Uselesstwit
Normal
'Only connect...' E M Forster

It's a team game: you win if your team wins, so self-sacrifice can be a rational move.

The mafia won the last game for a number of reasons, but the killer blow was when one of their number voted for another of their number when we were down to five players (three good guys and two bad). The mafia team would have sacrificed that player in order to fool the good guys and win the game but as it was they didn't have to: the good guys were fooled by the gambit.

How in the wide world of sports are you supposed to win.

I am mafia
I am not mafia
I am good
I am not good

are all statements to be trusted/distrusted.

Is this meant to be a version of the prisoner's dilemma?

Yep, mine's still off from the last game and I see no reason to change it. Vir. also has said he always leaves his off when playing, so nothing of use there. On the other hand Sifaka had hers set to normal all last game when she was innocent, so a sudden change is suspicious. Normal, I have no info on.

Not a lot by the looks of it.

This is big brother stuff. Anyone going to that much trouble has to be town.
I have to quote this headline from the BBC sport website. "Murray defies blip to reach last 16 "
Blip, where do you find the time?

I've applied some foolproof science here. Cross checking all of blips data of posts and sus activity:

And the winner is:

Vote Sifaka

Well you have your online status hidden right now.
It means nothing right now because you are posting.

The kicker there is that it doesn't work to hide from Charlou, Normal and I, as staff we can see the hidden members too.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

You're showing as online to me, Colubridae. We discovered in the last game that people 'disappear' momentarily while they are in the process of typing a reply.

Go to the UCP and board preferences, make sure the box for hide my online status is set to no. Then log out and back in, not ticking the box for log in as hidden this session.
