Well, about touchiness... about a fortnight ago, we were celebrating a birthday (well, group of birthdays) among friends, and the talk turned to an absent friend who is a kind of exalted born again catholic, and who had chosen to spend the Ascention weekend at a retreat in Taizé (famous religious community) rather than be among friends... and one among us said something rather critical of his attitude. Out of the blue, somebody else, who's not even known for being particularly religious (unlike our host who's a bourgeois traditionalist), flies at him and tells him that he's no right to "attack the religion"... Coming from her, that was a rather total WTF moment for us...

I can deal with a person being religious and expressing it in a polite way.

But to have an app that more or less reduces your religion to an inspirational magic 8-ball/fortune cookie/horoscope type thing kinda bothers me.

Also, it really bothers me when people make religion cute. It tends to diminish it. I cannot see how people making their religion (that stuff they claim to base their lives on) into something trivial and banal can fail to make them more trivial and banal people.

Besides, isn't a random message kinda like a fortune teller which Jews and Christians are supposed to steer clear of?

Ah, that kind of bullshit arises in Genesis .... it's one of the two main things I despise about religion, the other is knowledge (and 'knowledge') being condemned as sin.
