Is 3D a dead end?
I have decided I hate 3D in films..well that's a bit strong - but I certainly don't like it on balance. I don't think it adds a lot and in fact distracts.
What do you think and why?

3D movies have been around for decades. Unless they solve the glasses thing it will never take off.

A pain in the ass. The effect wears off on me after a few minutes and the colours are drained. Even Avatar couldn't be saved by it.

I've never been to a live theatre performance.

Re: Is 3D a dead end?
I can't see the 3D (lazy eye), so it's useless to me. Seems like just an annoying gimmick, though.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

It's great fun if it is a good production. I saw "Miss Saigon" and "Phantom of the Opera" live.Animavore wrote:I've never been to a live theatre performance.

I hate 3-D, it's a gimmick. Like CGI, it distracts from the most important ingredient of movies - STORY.

Re: Is 3D a dead end?
I saw it in Avatar and was impressed with how it added something to the action scenes. But it also did distract at times. In Alice in Wonderland, I definitely felt it distracted me and also felt like a bit of a gimmick. I would have preferred to watch it om 2d. There were some "wow" moments, like moving through realistic, 3d smoke, but I can't imagine being wowed by new combinations of more detailed cgi and 3d for much longer. I also get sick of scenes put in purely to show off 3d (there were a few in Alice in Wonderland).
Re: Is 3D a dead end?
3D is good for comic movies with that childish sort of design in characters.
Shrek etc.
Shrek etc.

Re: Is 3D a dead end?
It's just needed .. like "talking" movies and colour film
I'm not too keen on all that moving the camera around either .. distracting .
