Most spectacular piece of historical revisionism in film.
Re: Most spectacular piece of historical revisionism in film
What about Valkyrie? A fucking WW2 film so stylised I thought Tom Cruises character was going to start pulling out martial arts moves in the style of The Matrix kicking his way though hoards of Nazis before a climatic showdown with Hitler who removes his gloves slowly while delivering his masterplan soliloquy before cracking his knuckles while they stand off and then engage in a bone-cracking, gravity defying final fight.

Actually, "Memphis Belle" was a real B-17, the first one to complete 25 missions and return home. The WWII short film is available online if you want to compare the two.Feck wrote:Memphis Belle ....just because they missed the point of the book "Bomber" (both fiction I know but till)

And, of course, the Tom Cruise character was a "good" Nazi....Animavore wrote:What about Valkyrie? Yeah, but without that role we might have gotten somebody less nasty playing Lucius Malfoy!Coito ergo sum wrote:Except they named him Tavington, didn't they?Gawdzilla wrote:You have to give The Patriot one thing. They got Tarleton dead bang.

The Greatest Story Ever Told ftw.

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

The Longest Day. French troops fighting.

Re: Most spectacular piece of historical revisionism in film
I will never see Tom Cruise's Valkyrie. There's German film by the same name released earlier about the same subject, and vastly superior.
Coincidence? I think not.
One film I have a problem with, though, is Downfall. They didn't have Xbox back then!
