Expenses scandal, economic meltdown and a Labour Prime Minister described as "the worst ever" and the Tories still couldn't get a majority. Useless buggers.

I think if Labour doesn't resign then they can form a minority government. But then you might get a strange situation where the Tories and Lib Dems could form a coalition, giving the opposition an absolute majority over the ruling party.

George Galloway just lost his seat, after moving constituency to have a better chance of winning.

But can they? All the commentators have suggested that a Tory-Lib Dem horse is not going to even make the starting line. On the other hand, a Labour-Lib Dem coalition would also represent a clear majority of the popular vote, but would still be in a minority in the House. And it's not clear that people would have voted "for" it, assuming one can ever characterise these things.

No I think minority governments only work if the majority opposition agree not call for another election to kick them out.

Merv King (I think) has opined that whichever party wins will have to enact such savage spending cuts to bring down the national debt that they will subsequently be voted out of office and not return for a generation. So you could get the delicious scenario of each of the parties vying NOT to be part of a coalition govt....

If we get PR, I don't think the Tories will ever be back.

My thoughts exactly. It would be Labour-Lib Dems all the way, unless and until there is a sufficient swing on the ground to favour the Tories and Co.

@Elessarina and RuleBritannia. Politics is "interesting" enough without adding vitriolic personal insults. Please don't as it's not nice.

How have 29 contituencies still not got a result, they've been counting ballots for over thirteen hours?

Too busy "adjusting" them?

The Conservative Party need to reform and re-invent themselves. I certainly believe we need proportional representation.

Conservative: Seats: 291 Number of votes: 10,213,492
Labour: Seats: 251 Number of votes 8,307,487
Liberal Democrat Seats: 52 Number of votes: 6,481,602
