Re: The UK election thread
There's no doubt in my mind the Lib Dems, SNP and Plaid Cymru all lost votes to Labour to keep the Tories out.

The Tories + Unionists < Overall Majority
Labout + Lib Dems < Overall Majority
The Tories + Lib Dems > Overall Majority, but very, very unlikely to come to pass.
So what's going to happen?

Well, even though I hate them, I can't see how Alun Cairns could be much worse than John Smith. He did almost nothing. I once checked every word he'd ever spoken in Hansard... he had spoken about 4-5 times and only ever about St. Athan and DARA. Lazy bastard.Ghatanothoa wrote:Tories got the vale Pap. I have no idea.. but the thought of Brown in No 10 for another term makea me want to cry. The man has NEVER been elected to power how on earth can he remain there?klr wrote:The Tories + Unionists < Overall Majority

With regard to the folks who didn't get to vote, it does seem that in the majority of cases, demand exceeded supply. Yes, some folks turned up at 10pm, but it sounds like a lot of them had come home from work, gone at 6, found massive queues, gone home for dinner with a view to going back when it was a bit quieter, come back at 8, joined still massive queues and still hadn't got in by 10. No matter how you work that, some people would have missed out.

Re: The UK election thread
Problem is, they haven't voted for Cameron either ... not only will the Tories not have enough seats, but 36% of the popular vote hardly constitutes a "mandate". If there is serious electoral reform after this, then the Tories might struggle to get into power again for some time.Elessarina wrote:I have no idea.. but the thought of Brown in No 10 for another term makea me want to cry. Saw that on the news, rather embarrassing for a nation who sees itself as the mother of parliaments...Thinking Aloud wrote:With regard to the folks who didn't get to vote, it does seem that in the majority of cases, demand exceeded supply. How about an e-voting option to ease the crush in future? A chance for yet another textbook example of a well-run large-scale government IT project.Thinking Aloud wrote:With regard to the folks who didn't get to vote, it does seem that in the majority of cases, demand exceeded supply. Re: The UK election thread
Anyone who didn't manage to vote on time is just an idiot and shouldn't be allowed to vote anyway. Our ramshackle paper and pencil based system is far superior to any beep-beepy elecro-voting nonsense.
