Re: Fraternity Bans the Wearing of Confederate Uniforms
The only place people should wear the confederate uniform is in civil war re-enactments of battles, which are quite interesting...

That was the Empire, not the Sith. And yes, I know the Galactic Empire is commanded by a Sith, but still, you can't assign collective guilt like that- the organization no longer exists, and it definitely isn't the Galactic Empire.Gawdzilla wrote:Nobody should go to Star Wars parties dressed as Sith. Just makes my blood boil when I see a Sith after what they did to Alderan.

Seldom, if ever, happened in the ACW. (You have references?) Frequently happened at Stalingrad, the OGU and NKVD kept the troops in line.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:They usually 'want to be' when there is somebody the other side of the field shooting at them and an officer behind ready to do the same if they turn and run!

Palpatine was a Sith. Death Star was his baby. Governor Tarkan wouldn't have snuffed Alderan unless he knew Palpatine was cool with it.Chinaski wrote:That was the Empire, not the Sith. It's Governor Tarkin and Alderaan, with two 'a's. Hmpf.Gawdzilla wrote:Palpatine was a Sith. Death Star was his baby. I guess you could see it in terms of Sith domination, but given as no one else apart from Vader, Palpatine, and Vader's short-lived and inconsequential apprentices, was actually a Sith in a position of power, calling the Galactic Empire a Sith organization seems a bit much.

Did I EVER say "Empire"? I said "Sith".I guess you could see it in terms of Sith domination, but given as no one else apart from Vader, Palpatine, and Vader's short-lived and inconsequential apprentices, was actually a Sith in a position of power, calling the Galactic Empire a Sith organization seems a bit much.

Who did it? The Sith. For whose benefit? The Sith's. The Empire WAS Palpatine, and Palpatine was the Empire. When Palpatine forgot how to fly the Empire was over.Chinaski wrote:But it was for the benefit of the Empire that Alderaan was destroyed!

Actually, we're discussing literary analogies to the proposition in the OP with an eye toward finding a greater understanding of the issues.JimC wrote:This is pure Ratz...

Or we're just bitch-fighting.
One of those.

I always fall asleep during Star War movies. It's just to damn much to figure out who's doing what for a movie. I don't feel like frying my brain cells, whatever little there's left.

It's a rehash of several common myths and legends. Wise old man mentors "lost prince" so he can reclaim his crown by using a special gift or weapon against the usurper. This gets translated into over 12 hours of screen time, so there's a wee bit 'o padding here and there.kiki5711 wrote:I always fall asleep during Star War movies. There are whole college-level courses built on teasing the classical references out of Star Wars. (Usually not honors class, I think.)kiki5711 wrote:Gawdzilla wrote:It's a rehash of several common myths and legends.
